Almost two hours later of cat naps and pacing the doors opened and the main surgeon came out to speak to Hego.

"Your sister made it through the surgery. There were some complications and had to revive her.  It's gonna be a long road to recovery. I'll send a nurse out when they get her to her room." The tall, red headed man said with a smile.

Hego turned to everyone and sugarcoated, "She's gonna be okay!" He refused to tell the whole truth. Kim ran over to hug him tight.

It was almost fifteen minutes later when Kim went into Shannon's room. She was still out cold, but her heart was beating strong. "I'm here and I won't leave your side - ever." She leaned over to kiss Shannon's forehead. "I love you." She whispered.

Within the hour the Wego twin's finally arrived home and were at the hospital now with Kim, Hego and Drakken. Ron had to go home to his wife and her cravings.

Kim and Hego filled them in on everything they needed to know.

Drakken paced in worry, "Why won't Shego wake up?"

"She just went through major surgery. It's likely gonna take some time before she opens her eyes." Hego said to Drakken.

"Well, all right. I need some coffee. Does anyone want to join me?"

Mego nodded, "Sure, Drak, I'll come."

Kim fiddled with the necklace she was wearing. "Should I put this on her for luck?"

The twins spoke at once, like they usually did, "Yeah, it might help." They laughed together.

Hego smiled encouragingly. "She'd like that." He was glad she had changed her mind.

Hego helped Kim take the necklace off then she put it around Shannon's neck and clasped it together.

Kim turned and made a frustrated sound. "I can't get that awful teenager out of my head. Gah! She was so rude and selfish." She looked up at Hego, "Are you gonna sue for damages?"

"I would, but this is on Shannon. It's up to her to take the girl to court." Hego said and went to sit in a chair.

The twins were arguing over something by the window.

Kim was so tired from the waiting and worrying. She sat down on the floor and closed her eyes.

A few days later Hego and Doctor June Lockley were talking about Shannon's condition.

"It could be days or weeks before she wakes up. There was some trauma on the left side of her brain. She stopped breathing during surgery like Surgeon Ansley had told you. Luckily they revived her." The woman told him. She fixed her glasses and saw his jaw tighten in anger.

Hego said, "He told me there were complications, but didn't specify them."

"I'm sorry, Mr. Gordon. There's simply no timeline I can give you on this matter. It's mostly up to Shannon and her healing to wake her up."

Sadly Hego said, "Thank you." He walked off with tears falling from his eyes. What the doctor hadn't said was that she could be a vegtable forever too.

His brothers were waiting in the car for him. "What's new?" Mego asked.

Hego closed the door and hit his hands on the steering wheel. "Shannon is in a coma. She had trauma to the left side of her brain and died on the table. They revived her though. She's still here with us and waiting for her to wake up is gonna be hard," He paused then said, "If she wakes up."

The twin with the small red lightning bolt on his neck said, "Kim is gonna freak out."

Hego knew this already. "I'm gonna talk to her later today." He told his brothers.

The twin without a neck tattoo said, "Do you want us to come too?"

Hego shook his head. "I'd rather none of you be there. She tends to say things she later regrets."

                                                                                                 *

Hego was extremely nervous as he walked up to Kim's front door. His whole arms was shaking as he reached out to knock on the door. He waited for several minutes before trying again.

The door opened and Ron stood there with annoyance on his freckled face. "Hi." He blandly said.

"I really need to talk to Miss Possible." Hego said in a serious tone.

Ron rolled his eyes. "The cry baby is in bed right now."

Hego did not like his words and snapped, "My sister is still fighting for her life. Kim has every right to cry."

Ron shook his head and cowered. "I . . . I'm so sorry." He stuttered.

Hego rested a large hand on his shoulder. "I forgive you and your grouchy mood. You should get some rest."

Hego quietly made his way to Kim's bedroom. He saw that her eyes were closed and looked peaceful for the moment. "Kim?"

Kim wasn't fully asleep just yet. She rolled over to see Hego looking at her. "How's Shannon doing?" She rubbed the tiredness from her eyes.

"There is no easy way to say this. Kim, Shannon is in a coma. No one knows if or when she is gonna wake up." It took all of his strength to get through those sentences without crying.

Kim was rocked by this and just stared at him. Her mind raced to several heartbreaking conclusions. Tears spilled from her eyes and Hego went to side on the bed. They both sat silently and cried together.

Ron now stood just inside the room. His heart felt heavy for his best friend and Hego. He said nothing because they were too wrapped up in each others arms. Distrubing them would just make things worse.

He decided to go lay down on the couch and get some sleep.

Kim wept until she fell asleep in Hego's arms.

Hego didn't mind the wetness the had soaked into his shirt. He didn't mind the light snoring Kim was now doing. He knew how exhausted she was. He felt the same way and found himself falling asleep too.
