It was lunch, almost one week after Emmett was found dead, I scanned over the faces of the tables near ours, letting their expressions drift in and out of my mind.
"Liv, are you even paying attention to what I'm saying?" Emma exclaimed.
I shook my head and sighed, earning an eye roll from her.
"As I was saying, Emmett's parents told me they wanted me to help with the funeral." Emma said.
I looked around the cafeteria to see people looking away as soon as they saw me glance towards them.
"And I mean, I'm honored," Emma continued.
I turned back to the table and took a sip of my water.
But I don't know if I wanna plan a party for my dead boyfriend. "Because, then,"She sniffled, "then I'm the girl who threw a party for her dead boyfriend. That's worse than being the girl with a dead boyfriend." Tears started to stream down her face.
"Yeah," Alex mumbled eating his sandwich, "and all of us are the guys with the dead best friend. Join the club."
"Did you ever make out with him?"Emma snapped, "No! So, it's not the same thing!" She gave Alex a death glare, and continued to cry.
"Hey Emma?" I said, she turned towards me. "Maybe, we don't talk about it in school?" I said softly.
"Why? Because it embarrasses you?" She said hurt flashing over her face.
"No! No, I just dont like seeing you so upset," She pulled me into an awkward sitting hug.
"Awe, thanks Liv, you really are my best friend."
We looked up as Brandon sat down at the table.
"Okay, so I've been thinking," Brandon started.
"Oh boy. Watch out," Alex said, smirking.
"Ha-ha, this is serious jackass," Brandon flicked Alexs ear. "What if we investigated who Emmett's killer is!"
"Why?" I asked.
"Because, Liv the police have nothing! You would think with the low crime here they'd make it a top priority."
"Yeah," Alex interjected, "It's not everyday a varsity swim captain with a full ride to Minnesota gets murdered."
The bell rings dismissing lunch.
"We'll talk more about this after school, kay?" Brandon said as we dispersed to our classes.
