I sit on the couch in my new place just watching TV like some crazy person. It's some new game show that I don't care enough about to learn the name of. House arrest sucks. I can't do anything I want to do. It's pure isolation.
Minutes go buy of me watching these people answer trivia questions and win money. As if life is anything remotely close to that.
I hear a knock on the door. I sit there confused about what I should do. I know I'll get in trouble if I let them in.. but I could really use the company. It's been two whole days without anyone.. and I certainly can't go three years like this.
Slowly and cautiously, I tip-toe across the living room floor to the oddly-colored purple front door. I peek through the peep-hole.
Oh my goodness! It's my band kids and Katherine Steele!
"Public school band kids! Katherine Steele!" I shout relieved to see somebody. "Good to see you! But, keep it down I could get in trouble..."
"We have news for you," Katherine says, hanging her head.
"What news?" I ask sarcastically. "Did the apocalypse start or something?"
"Rami is being held hostage by Sebastian in their dorm room," Katherine says, like it pains her to do so.
"What?!" I practically scream. "That's horrible!" How could this be happening while I'm on house arrest!
"We figures you would know what to do," Katherine squeaks as she cries. Why is she crying? Why am I not crying?
"Well, frankly I can't do anything," I say, and now a tear finally starts coming down. "It's all you, Katherine."
"And the band kids, right?" Katherine asks. Is she stupid or something.
"No, not them!" I scream. "They're children! We only risk their lives if it comes to the point where we must take extreme measures!"
"So, what do I do?!" Katherine panics.
"I'll take the band kids here," I say heroically. "Band kids, go hide in my kitchen cabinets until it's safe to come out."
They heed my instructions. Honestly, when have they not?
I run to my kitchen table to grab two walkie-talkies I was playing with earlier because I was bored. I run back to the door and hand it to Katherine.
"Take this," I says as she grabs it from me. "Call me if you need back-up."
"But your house arrest-" Katherine speaks but I interrupt.
"Rami's life is at hand," I say courageously. "I'll do whatever it may take. Now, GO!"
Katherine does an embarrassing jog to her car. Seriously, one of your friends might get murdered, at least pretend to run fast.
"Don't screw this up," I scream at her as she drives away.
