Those were the eight people that were still MIA. No one could be sure if any were alive or not. There was a fair chance that none of them would ever be seen again.

That's why it was up to us to make sure that we got them back safely. Our job, our top priority, was maintaining the balance of the Earth by bringing our friends and family out of the clutches of W.O.R.L.D.

However, as time went on, even more matters rose up to distract us.

"Christian!" Joy exclaimed when her son stepped off the plane and into his mother's arms. "You made it safely; thank God!"

"Hi, Mum," he replied, hugging back. "It was all fine, really. The trip, I mean."

"Come on, let's get you settled in," Joy said, reaching for his bag. Chris, a capable nineteen-year-old university student, assured her that he could handle it and followed her to the dormitories. Serenity was there, idly doodling in her sketch pad while she lounged on her bed. When her brother came in, she tossed it aside in favor of throwing her arms around him.

"What took you so long?" she asked him accusingly. "Yeesh! Worrying Mum and Dad like that, I swear!"

"You try being at uni," he countered. "But I didn't mean to worry anybody."

"Hey, hey, hey," his sister said, rattling his shoulders back and forth. "Guess what guess what guess what."

"What?" Christian answered, rolling his eyes at her repitition.

"Aila's here~!"

"Yes, I know!" he said happily. "Where is she? I want to go see her right now."

"Come on, she's probably in her room," Serenity supplied, leading him by the hand down the hall. It didn't take them long to reach the appropriate door; Serenity knew where Aila was sleeping because the two of them had been talking with each other quite a lot to pass the time.

Knock knock knock.

"Aila, you in there~?" Serenity called.

There was the sound of papers shuffling, footsteps, and then the knob turned. Aila appeared in the doorway, looking happy to have someone to talk to. However, her gold-coloured eyes lit up like stars when she saw who Serenity had dragged along.

"Christian!" she cried out, rushing forward to hug him. He caught her with ease and returned the embrace joyously. "You're here! It took you long enough." Her voice carried with it the soothing lilt of a very light French accent, which was inevitable because she attended a university in France.

"Funny how you sound so much like my Mum and sister," he commented, smiling down at her. "I had a little trouble getting away, but--"

"What? Trouble?" Aila's face rapidly morphed into an expression of fear. "Was it W.O.R.L.D. trying to get to you?"

"No, nothing like that," he assured her quickly. "I just had some things to take care of before I could leave. I promise I'm completely fine."

Aila let out a relieved sigh and closed her eyes, leaning her forehead againt his chest. "Dieu merci..."
