The time was two things at once: early morning, and "go."
'It's go time.'
Hello, W.O.R.L.D. base that we suspect is imprisoning our friend. Time for you to go away now~!
Our first move did not come from the ground. Rather, it came from the air. In the Brazilian jungle, we on Earth hid and watched as three fighter jets filled the atmosphere with sound, became little specks in the sky, and steadily grew larger until they flew right over the base. I couldn't see with my naked eyes if W.O.R.L.D. was responding to the threat or not, but for now it was quiet.
Then...
VRRRRR!
Not three minutes after our planes, a ready-to-go aerial combat jet lifted off through the hangar bay doors that were now retracted and exposed the inside of their base. In flawlessly-executed synchronization, the two plainly painted jets split off from their hot pink leader plane and circled back to intercept the newcomer to the scene.
"... Why didn't anyone tell me Poland's plane was pink?" Willow asked me quietly in a deadpanned tone of voice.
"Oh, you didn't see it yet?" I giggled, watching him way up there in the air. It was like he really was a phoenix taking wing and vindicating its rebirth. "I think it's awesome."
"Of course you do," Willow commented tiredly. We were currently up in a tree and waiting for the signal to jump down and make our way closer to the base. Our sign would be...
Twee-twooo~
"There it is!" Willow whisper-yelled excitedly. I was already falling toward the ground by the time she finished her sentence, and my feet hit the soil a second later. My younger sister was right behind me, naturally.
To my left, I saw England and France, who had been paired up whether they liked it or not. 'Makes me wonder if Germany really thought that through...' I thought wryly, but I also knew the truth of the matter. The two of them, when they put their bickering aside, would be able to accomplish anything they put their minds to. After all, they raised Evan in another future (that I managed to keep from coming true).
"Let's do this," I said to Wisp, who nodded and kept her head down like we'd been advised.
On our right, I glimpsed Denmark, Iceland, and Finland charging through the jungle and keeping pace with the two of us. This mission was more important to the three of them, as well as Sweden, than any of us here. I stored that bit of info away in my brain and kept my weapon ready.
The plan was simple: divide and conquer. They weren't expecting us, so we would at least have the element of surprise on our side. I spotted the side door that I'd known would be there, and darted over to it, wrenching it open to find myself in a storeroom. Yes, okay, good. That much hadn't changed since I was last here.
'Okay, flash bombs are ready' I noted, handling two in one hand. "Got your goggles?" I asked Willow, who held out a thumbs up. Her goggles that would protect her vision were already in place, and in her other hand she held three additional flash grenades. I strapped my eyewear on and crept up to the inner door, which I knew led into the hangar. All around us in this storeroom were boxes of unidentified goods. For all we knew, they were highly combustible explosives.
The chance added a taste of extra danger to the air, and it got my blood roiling with excitement.
My cargo pants pockets were loaded with little "toys" to help me take out as many baddies as possible: smoke bombs, even more flash bombs, plenty of ammunition, knives, a walkie-talkie with a built-in GPS, and even a snack! Nothing at all was going to stop us or get in our way.
