"Lydia?" I whisper, trailing my eyes over every inch of her face, making sure she's actually there and it's not my eyes playing tricks on me.

I'm completely frozen in my spot and I don't know what to do or what to say. What can I say?

I drop her hands and take a shaky step back, but it feels like my legs are going to give way. I think I hear Nathan saying my name but I'm not sure. All I can hear is the sound of my heart beating against my chest, the only thing my eyes can see and focus on is Lydia.

My head shows images of my dreams, nightmares. It shows the memory of her laying there. In her own blood for jumping in front of that bullet for me. I'm the reason she was like that.

I can no longer see Lydia as my eyes are blurred over with tears. The lump in my throat never seeming to leave as I try swallowing it away while I desperately try to keep my tears from slipping over.

Before I know what's happening, I'm running into her arms, crushing my body into hers. That's it, my tears have spilled and I bury my head into the nape of her neck, my arms wrapped tightly around her neck, crossing tightly. Her arms are holding me impossibly tight to her body. I want to relax into her, but I'm scared if I relax and loosen my grip she'll be taken away from me again.

"I-I missed you, s-so much." I try to say, but my sniffles where my body is trying to get oxygen into my body where I've been crying causes me to stutter.

She just holds me tighter, burying her head deeper into my shoulder.

I don't know how long we stand there for, just embracing each other.

All too soon, she starts pulling away and I relentlessly follow her lead and pull away.

For the first time since I've seen her, I look around to see Nathan with glassy eyes and everyone looking at us from a distance, smiles on their faces.

"Surprise." She whispers, looking down at the sand then back up at me.

"You travelled all the way out here on our birthday?" I question, and i mentally slap myself as that was the first thing i ask her and not how are you?

"Yeah." She laughs. "Its been planned for a while." I look over at Nathan for a split second and back towards Lydia. "Nathan planned most of it." As much as i want to literally pounce on Nathan right now for doing all this for me, i hold myself back.

"You did this?" I ask, looking up at him. Amazed that he would do something so incredible for me.

He simply nods with a small smile on his lips. Wanting to give him a proper thank you, i take two big steps towards him and wrap my arms around him, burying my face in his chest. He stumbles back a little but regains his balance and wraps his arms around my neck and shoulders. "Thank you." I mumble. I pull back and look up at him, instincts take over and i place my lips on his. Just a lingering kiss. "Thank you." I repeat myself into his lips. I press another kiss to his lips and pull away.

"I don't know what to say!" i speak up honestly, this has happened all too quick and its left me speechless. A good kind of course.

"Well, lets enjoy our time at the beach. It is your birthdays after all. You're both 18." Nathan smiles.
