Nathan's p.o.v
"Are you ok?" I ask gently, placing my hand on the small of her back, smoothing my thumb slightly in circles as we're standing outside the hospital.
"No," she laughs quietly.
"I'm not trying to make you feel any worse, but I just want you to be aware she's not going to look her best. The chemo is making her a little sick, ok?" I regret the words that roll from my tongue, but I just want her to be prepared.
She nods slightly, inhaling deeply. She takes a step forward towards the door so I lean down to take her hand, lacing our fingers together.
We caught a taxi from the airport to the hospital, big mistake. Taxi prices are ridiculous. So, my mum kindly said she would pick us up from the hospital.
We step through the doors of the hospital to be greeted by Lucy's dad. Lucy sighs to herself, letting go of my hand and practically running at her father and jumping into his arms.
"Hey sweetheart." He says gently.
Lucy doesn't say anything, just hugs her father.
"Alright Nathan?"
"Hi, sir." I smile, nodding my head a little.
"Hope you've been taking care of my little girl,"
"Dad!" Lucy groans quietly, making us both laugh.
"I have." A warm smile takes over my lips as Lucy pulls away, a huge smile on her lips.
"I missed you." Lucy says quietly, looking up at her father. I watch as the elder mans green eyes brighten up, a smile growing bigger on his lips making crinkles form by his eyes.
"I missed you more, love. I'm so sorry for lying to you. I didn't know how to-"
"Dad, it's ok. Honestly. I understand. I just want to see her." He nods his head, turning around and gesturing for her to follow.
Lucy turns to me and holds her hand out and I quickly hold on and follow both her and her dad down the cooridor.
After walking down a ridiculously long corridor, we stop outside a private room. I squeeze at Lucy's hand as we open the door to walk in.
That's when we see Lucy's mum, she looks so fragile. Her once light blue eyes are a dull grey colour, her face is pale and her gingery, blonde hair that's just longer than her shoulders are slightly knotty. She looks so ill, but that's just the side effect of the chemo. It'll be worth it in the end.
She looks over to us, her face suddenly brightening when she sees Lucy.
"Mum." Lucy breathes. I leave go of her hand so she can go over to greet her.
"Oh, baby. I didn't want you to see me like this." Claire says softly, as Lucy walks closer to the woman.
"I wanted to see you mum. Who knows when I'd see you next. I missed you." Her voice is just above a whisper.
"I missed you too." She coos. "Come here." She opens her arms widely, allowing Lucy to lay on the bed with her and to snuggle up into her side. Me and Rob are just standing aside and watching, sad smiles on our faces.
"You're going to be ok, right mum?" Her face saddens while brushing her hands through Lucy's hair.
"I don't know, darling. But hopefully the chemo will work." I watch as Lucy's face scrunches together as she pulls herself closer to her mum, I can tell she's trying not to cry as her lip is quivering slightly.
"I don't want to loose you." Lucy chokes out. No ones knows what else to say after that, what else is there too say? We can't say she'll be fine because we don't know that and we definitely can't say otherwise.
An hour later and visiting time is almost over. Mum will be here soon, Lucy is coming with us then her father will be home later on tonight if he decides not to say at the hospital again.
"Are you going to loose your hair?" Lucy suddenly asks, tracing her finger over her mothers patterned pajamas.
"No, it's not that kind of chemo. I'm really lucky because most of them do cause you to loose your hair. Why? Don't you think I'd look good without any hair?" She jokes, lightening the mood.
"Mum!" Lucy laughs.
"Knock knock!" A quiet voice sounds behind me, I turn to see my amazing mum standing behind the door, her head poking around the corner.
"Mum." I smile.
"Nathan!" She cries, barging the door open and practically pouncing into me.
"Mum, it's ok!" I whisper, wrapping my arms around her.
"Oh god, I missed you so much!" She says, her voice cracking.
"I'm here now!" I say gently, holding her body close to my mine. I rub comforting circles on her back, while biting my lip. Desperately trying not to let my eyes water up. It's horrible seeing my mum cry, especially over me.
A couple moments later, she pulls away and just looks at my face, smoothing the back of her hand down my cheek. Her eyes are slightly red.
"Mum, are you alright?" I say sadly, feeling like this is my fault.
"Yeah, I'm just glad that you're home! Even if it's just for a week." She laughs sadly.
"Sorry guys," the nurse pops her head in. "I don't want to interrupt but I suggest you start thinking about leaving, visiting time is almost over." She says sympathetically, then leaves.
"Hey Karen." Claire smiles, still running her fingers through Lucy's hair, untangling small knots with her fingers.
"Hey Hun, how are you feeling?"
"Honestly? Like crap, but hopefully this will all be worth it."
"I'm sure it will." Mum says, smiling a little. "Are you two ready?" She says carefully.
I hear Lucy sigh so I look over to her, watching her slowly getting up from the hospital bed.
"I'll come back and see you tomorrow mum, ok? Do you want me to bring you anything?"
"It's ok love, but a McDonald's would be nice?" I couldn't help but chuckle to myself.
"Yeah, sure!" Lucy laughs.
"Ok, you go home and have some rest. I'll see you tomorrow." Lucy leans down to kiss Claire's cheek then walks over to me and Rob. "If I don't see you later, I'll see you tomorrow." She says to rob. He nods.
"Bye." Lucy says quietly, as we walk out of the hospital room. "That was hard." She whispers as we step outside.
I wrap my arm around her and hold her close to me while we're walking.
"Are you staying home tonight?" If I'm honest, I'd rather her stay in my house.
"Yeah, it's my first night back." I nod.
"Do you want me to stay with you?" We reach the car so I open the back door to let her in, me following in after her, mum getting into the drivers seat.
"No, we're only back for a week. Spend time with your family." I hesitate for a second. I don't want her to stay by herself while we're here.
"Ok." I sigh.
