Setos POV
5 pm. As if on cue, Joey walked into my office. The sun casted a warm glow over his already soft skin.
"What?"
"Nothing. Just looking at you." I rubbed my eyes. "I have my bag packed. It's on the jet already."
"Oh, well I have my backpack." Joey pointed a thumb to his worn out school bag.
"Oh joy. Yes I remember, the run away bag." I smirked.
"What- oh very funny. I don't have a ton of clothes so I don't need a fancy bag for fancy clothes. When do we leave?" Joey asked before plopping down on my office couch.
"Any time." I shrugged. "I'm using a pilot, too exhausted to fly ourselves." I rubbed my eyes. "Where is Fuzzy?"
"Yugi is lookin after him at my place. I even turned on my robot before I left." Joey looked proud.
"Did you-"
"Yes. I emptied the dirt tray."
"Just checking." I smirked. "Believe it or not I am so ready for a nap."
"Whatever. I think we should both sleep. I'm exhausted. You make me tired." Joey closed his eyes. "Nap time. It's hard being a trophy husband."
"Mhmm." I rolled my eyes and finished up some paperwork. Joey on the other hand had gotten comfortable and dozed off. "Unbelievable." Joey could fall asleep anywhere.
I put off waking Joey for as long as I could until it was getting close to the time we had to leave. Nudging him awake, I smiled at the annoyed look he made. "I'm too tired." Joey yawned.
"Okay I'll leave you here." I shrugged.
"No, no I'm up." Joey groaned and stretched. "Let's go rich boy."
I grabbed my laptop and a few other loose ends. "Come on, we can sleep on the jet." Joey looked at me and shrugged.
Together we went up towards the roof to the helicopter to take us to the waiting jet. 45 minutes later, we were lifting off and headed straight to Germany. Joey had somehow managed to stay awake the entire time, though, now he was face down on the floor in the small jet bedroom.
I shook my head. He didn't even make it to the bed. Taking off my jacket, I knelt down to wake Joey.
"Hey," no response. "Hey. Joey." Still nothing. "JOEY.""God damn it what!!!! I'm tryina sleep! The fuck ya want!" Joey screamed into the floor.
"I wanted you to sleep in the bed." I frowned. "You shouldn't sleep down there. It'll hurt your back." I sighed and unbuttoned my shirt. "You could always be up here on the bed."
Joey mumbled something unintelligible and I had to try not to laugh. "Okay. I guess I'll have to sleep up here alone."
"FINE." Joey practically shouted into the floor. Groaning loudly, Joey rolled over and looked at me. "I'm too old for this shit."
"I'm older than you are." I shrugged again and continued to undress. "What would you like to do when we reach the fatherland?"
"What- That was dark. Even for you." Joey sat up and glared at me.
"Ah, you got the joke?" I smirked.
"I hold dual citizenship for the United States and Japan. I'm not stupid. Yes. I got the World War Two 'joke'. You want a real joke?" Joey stood up and threw his shirt on the floor. "President Lincoln and President Kennedy go hat shopping. The end."
"What that doesn't make sense." I laughed.
"Where did they get shot?"
"Ah. The head. That was pretty good. I'm impressed you were able to come up with a joke like that."
"Yeah, I think I read it in Mad Magazine." Joey gave me a half smile. "I don't think I slept enough in your office, I'm still exhausted."
I smiled. "We still have about 3 hours, I'm taking a nap you're welcome to join me." I invited Joey up on the bed.
"Uh huh. Don't try an sweet talk me."
"If I wanted to do that I would tell you that I planned a bar crawl when we land." I shrugged and looked at the floor.
"Wha.. no fuckin way!!! For real??" Joey gushed and jumped on the bed.
"Maybe." I rolled over on top of Joey and kissed his forehead.
"That's- wait... is this a test?" Joey pushed me away. "For like drinking?"
"What?" Suddenly a snap of realization. "No. It's not a test." Suddenly I remembered. I remembered that Joey had an alcohol problem. We had just spoken about him taking a break. It was unfair of me to make a joke like that. I struggled internally. "Yeah, we can go to a bar."
"Good." Joey murmured before rolling me off of him and cuddling up on my side. "Sleepy." Came the weak whisper before slow soft snores echoed on my neck.
'God damn it!' I screamed in my head. Silently smacking myself, I had to adapt. Yes we had talked about Joeys alcoholism. He needed help. But with my promise of some bar crawl bullshit? I was screwed.
Again I screamed internally. 3 hours. 3 hours. 3 hours. I repeated my newly acquired mantra. A snore from my exhausted husband drew me from my black thoughts. I raised my head to look at Joey. I shook my head and dropped it back on the mattress. "Jesus Christ." I whispered to no one in particular.
An alarm clock jolted Joey and myself awake. It took me a second to remember where we were and what was going on. "Shuuoff," Joey screamed into the bed. "Shut it off!!"
I slammed the snooze button and turned the alarm off. Doing some quick math in my head, I calculated that we would be landing in a half hour. "We will be there soon. If you want to go out, the hotel suite I have is in Nuremberg." I said as I yawned and stretched.
"Ehh, can't we just go to sleep?" Joey asked angerly with his face stuffed in the pillows.
"When we get to the hotel?" A small flutter of hope blew through me before being replaced by sudden guilt. Maybe Joey wouldn't want to go out and drink.
"I'm tired." Joey groaned.
"Well, let's sleep again." I suggested half heartedly.
"Nooooo, how often do I go to Germany?" Joey rolled close to me. "You're takin me out on a date." He smirked into my shoulder.
I rolled my eyes. "Okay Joseph."
"Damn right." Was all Joey mumbled before he fell asleep again.
