Eighty Three - End It Another Way

(If you guys hadn't already guessed this is an alternative ending as to what Lyds Dixon's future is, its one hell of a plot twist but I thought this could be fun)

The sweet hum of cicadas floated in the air and I found myself lay amongst the tall grass once more, unsure of where I was, only that I was under a baby blue sky with the hand of another's in my own. Slowly, I turned my head only for my eyes to fall upon my only love, Carl Grimes. He'd died so long ago that I'd almost forgotten what he looked like, he was still the same boy as he once was it just seemed he looked slightly older, almost as if he too had aged. As if he'd been there all this time.

"How did you end up here Lyds?" He rolled onto his side, his finger delicately traced the line across my neck, "What did they do to you?"

"I don't remember..."

"Think about it, what do you remember?"

"Okay so we're going to start with a series of compressions, you're going to want to-"

"Need any help Doctor E?" I smiled to myself as I trudged down the small hill with Luke on my hip and over to Enid, "Luke wanted to come visit his favourite Aunt."

"Hey little man!" Enid beamed and forgot everything she was doing at once and instead took the chubby boy into her arms, "How 'ya doin' today? Huh? Having fun?"

"He's excited." I nodded, watching Luke suddenly become shy, "I'm letting Connor take him to the movie later."

"What are you going to do then?"

"I thought I'd come witness your boyfriend and Luke make fools of themselves and be your emotional support as your best friend, of course."

"Good because I'm going to need it, I don't even know if Alden is my boyfriend yet! I just feel guilty even thinking about it, the last boy I dated died and the last boy I liked was Carl, it's like I'd be putting him in danger."

"You know what E? Fuck it! Fuck all of that, you guys could be so happy together and that's all that matters right?"

"Right..."

"So go talk to him, little Luke and I have got this covered, you go get yourself a boyfriend."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure now go!"

"I love you guys!"

"We love you too, now go be happy."

"I will, as long as I have you guys."

Once more, I smiled softly down upon Enid and pressed a playful kiss to the top of her head before she shoved me away with a laugh. Luke and I both beamed at the older girl as she retreated down the hill and in Alden's direction. She had been so happy, we had been so happy, what had happened to change all of that?

"I-I remember talking to Enid, we were trying to persuade her to finally ask Alden to be her boyfriend... "

"What else is there? Come on think harder baby, you have to remember..."

"I'm trying, but it hurts."

"Where does it hurt?" Carl sat up and pulled me against him to sit between his legs just like he had used to all those years ago.

"My neck..." I spoke allowing my fingers to brush the raw skin, the second I made contact pain echoed through my body and I fell further back into Carl's embrace, "I c-can't remember, I can't!"

"Tell me and I'll protect you from whoever did this, I'll keep you safe, just like I promised..."

"I'm trying!"
