-

Crystal tears streamed down the four's faces, drenching them in sorrow. Moonlight gleamed on the shiny surface of two knives. Breeze howled to the full moon as the wind clouded the air.

-

The boy shook as he fiddled with the handle, eyes fixed on the thick blade. The other stayed frozen in place.

The boy was a snow globe. Beautiful yet filled to the brim with raging emotions when shaken up. A single drop could shatter the whole thing; a single action.

The other knew this, so he stayed in his place, face twisted in horror as his lover held the knife with an iron grip.

"John, please..." He started.

"I-I'm sorry, Alex. I lied. I'm so, so sorry." The young boy sobbed, coating the knife in a layer of tears.

"Please put down the knife, we can talk it out-"

"No! I don't want to! I can't do it!" He yelled, raising the knife to the moon. "John! Please!" The other bawled and reached out towards him.

-

A single action can shatter the whole thing.

-

"I'm so sorry, my dear boy..." Was all he said before plunging the knife deep into his heart, ignoring the other boy's desperate cries.

-

"Maria, put it down!" A young woman sternly glared at the other.

"How do you know what's good for me?!" The other responded, squeezing her eyes tight, trying to block anymore tears, but it seemed impossible to stop. "That's my opinion!" The black haired girl screeched.

"Exactly! You never care about my opinion!" The other started to take small steps away from the girl, "Let me do this one thing!" She started to raise the knife.

"No!" The black haired girl screamed and talked the other to the ground. They fought for control over the silver blade, one wanting to kill, the other wanting to save.

Out of the blue, the brown haired woman smashed her lips onto the other's, catching her off guard, gaining control of the said blade and pushed the other off to stand.

"It's the only thing I'll ever do..." The blade sliced through the air towards the heart of the young girl.

-

It wasn't anything new. Two hearts, already damaged, being pierced with daggers of a fatal fate. For the last time, their hearts would be broken.

How could the universe be so cruel?

They looked towards fate, as fate looked back, mocking them in their shining glory. They felt themselves losing control of their bodies, collapsing to the hard floor.

-

"John!" His hands shook as a faint, red line appeared on his finger. His eyes widened as he realised what it was.

-

The young woman screamed and wailed, clutching onto the other. A faint, red line became visible through her tears, as she shook at the sight of it attached to her, and her lover's, fingers.

-

The Red String of Fate.

-

Time seemed to freeze as the wind's howls became silent. The two were pulled in by a magnetic force towards the, now, bloodied knives, pulling them out of their lovers.

Their hands shook as they inched the knives closer and closer to their hearts.

In the last inch, they closed their eyes, looking up at the stars who had stabbed them in the back.

-

Four bloody bodies were found, dead, the next morning in a small park, surrounded by a thick blanket of trees and leaves. The two black strings became visible to the naked eye.

Everyone knew of the story. Newspapers featured it on their front pages.

'The Fatal Flaws of Fate'

The news reached to the victims' friends and families.

-

A funeral for them was planned immediately. All of their families attended, eyes already spilling hot tears.

The black attire reminded them of the unbreakable strings and mocked their misery.

Not a single dry eye was found that day. Everyone refused to accept the fact that four of the most important people in their lives were gone. They would never be able to hear their real voices again.

All except one.

She had already accepted the fact that her best friends were gone. In fact, she was relieved.

They were finally let free after being a slave to fate for years.

Though, it didn't mean she didn't miss them. She was just thankful they weren't led on by the hands of destiny like she was.

I mean, she didn't have a soulmate, right?

Her string flickered crimson and ebony constantly. Like she was a pet for the stars to experiment on. She was glad her friends didn't have to be played with.

After all, Martha Manning was just made to be tested on, right?

No one would actually love her.

She smiled through the tears and looked up to the sky.

I hope they're happy up there...

She wiped her tears and closed her eyes.

After all, it was...

Only A Matter Of Time...

The End.
