I'm walking down a trail, surrounded by tall pine trees, the ground covered in their fallen needles, along with some crunchy leaves. The picture of my favourite season, fall. The air is cool, but the tall tress provide shelter from the brisk wind, so it's at a comfortable temperature.

Sonya is walking in front of me, jumping excitedly in all the dead leaves. I let out a laugh, shaking my head.

Over the course of the year, Sonya and I have slowly integrated ourselves back into our lives. Ever since her really bad anxiety attack that one night, she opened herself up to me, her mother, and her therapist, and she got the help she needed. It was a hard process, but she worked so hard, and now her anxiety is under control. Her trauma seems to be so much better, too. There's only a small handful of times that she'd wake up from bad dreams, crying. Every time I would hold her, and reassure her that she was okay. Other than that, her mental health is doing extremely well.

In April, I asked her if she was comfortable with moving in with me, and she accepted, saying that she was ready. Her mom was a little bit apprehensive at first, but she trusted that we knew what we were doing, so she was a big help in the moving process. Our whole gang was a great help as well, my mom and sister mostly.

Sonya opened up to everyone too, telling them the real reason why she left all those years ago. My mother was in tears, and Maddie felt bad for resenting her at the beginning. Sam wanted to tear Trenton's head off (just like I wanted to do). In the end, they were all super grateful that she was starting to feel better, and they all took part in her healing process.

When she met Lauren for the first time, Sonya was a little jealous, admittedly, but they instantly clicked, and we all became really close friends. Lauren even started dating a girl she met at Maddie's business. Overall, things are just amazing.

I'm brought out of my thoughts, when I suddenly crash into Sonya's back. She turns to me, giving me a look. "Hey, missy, watch where you're going."

I laugh at her, and she smiles. "Sorry, S, I was lost in my thoughts."

Sonya grabs my hand, and we resume walking, the soft sounds of nature surrounding us. "What were you thinking about?" she implores, running her thumb over the skin of my hand.

The woman beside me is wearing dark jeans, with some dark grey Converse, a black pullover covering her body. Her hair is loose, blowing gently in the minimal wind. She really takes my breath away.

I look into her eyes, smiling. "Just about how crazy our life is. How we started off in Austin, then ended up in New York. Then we were apart for eight years. And now we're here, on vacation in Canada."

Sonya lets out a melodious laugh, and my heart skips a beat at the sound. "Who would've thought we would end up in Canada?" She smirks, and I giggle.

One of Sonya's goals of her recovery is that she wanted to go back into film. Miraculously, Adam Parks was still working at the film school, and he was incredibly surprised when Sonya showed up in his office one day in May. She explained what happened to her, leaving out some of the personal details, but nonetheless, her welcomed her back with open arms.

She's on academic probation, considering she was let back in on special circumstances. Sonya has been working her butt off, excited to be taking this journey for herself. I'm excited for her. it's so nice to see her so happy. She's glowing.

Anyways, I surprised Sonya with a trip to Canada, knowing that she's been wanting to come visit here. She's always been interested in the nature here, so I took her to Ontario, to Toronto specifically. She was ecstatic, and that made it worth it.
