My uncle, Klaus, had always been protective of me. He had two children of his own, but it was like he had treated me as a third. Rebekah had never missed a milestone, always there to catch me if I fell. That's why I knew something was really wrong when I saw the look on her face when we left New Orleans. "Tell me the truth," I said calmly. I saw Stefan look back at me from the rearview mirror. He sighed and glanced at Rebekah. "It's nothing to worry about," she said quickly. Stefan shook his head. He gently took Rebekah's hand and rubbed his thumb over it. "Rebekah, he needs to know. He isn't a little kid anymore, or innocent," Stefan said softly. She turned and looked at him sharply. In the years they had raised me, I had never seen her look at him like this. "He has every right to know. Especially with what just happened in New Orleans," Stefan said calmly. She stared at him. Then she sighed. "Your mother contacted the rest through Elena. She said something about you and Hope and that she had to come back to finish what had been started," she said. I sat there. My mother had found a way and I hadn't been there. "I missed it," I whispered. Stefan's head jerked up to meet my eyes. "I knew someone needed help, I just didn't know who," I said softly. "We are still going to Mystic Falls to talk to Nova and see if Alaric can helps us with anything. It won't be long and the rest of your gang will be joining us," he said. I shook my head. "And Luna?" I asked, a sudden urge coming over me. "She is being watched," Rebekah said. "By Cami," I stated. "Yeah," Rebekah said nodding. "Wonder what she meant about finishing what had been started?" I asked. "I'm assuming it has something to do with Katherine and Kai being on the lose. She was the one that turned your mother into a vampire and she didn't leave her. She kept her and helped her. They share a bond," Stefan said. I groaned. "Not a sire bond right?" I asked. "No. Not a sire bond, just a family bond and a hatred," Stefan said. I frowned. "A hatred?" I asked. "Yes. A hatred for each other," Rebekah finished. "That makes no sense," I stated. "Katherine only kept your mother alive because she knew that your mother could kill Klaus, but when Tala found out she was family and that all of you would be born, she went against Katherine and ever since I guess war has been brewing for a dead hybrid and a trapped vampire," Rebekah explained. I sighed. "We have to bring mom back and we can't let her do the same thing this time," I said. Both of them stiffened. "What aren't you telling me?" I asked starting to become aggravated. "Klaus called an old friend. It seems that if Katherine and Tala were to go head-to-head and Katherine has Kai on her side, Tala won't survive, both neither will Katherine or Kai," Stefan said softly. Dead silence fell in the car. "Mom can't have help?" I asked. Rebekah glanced at Stefan as if to give a warning. "No, she has to do this alone," Stefan said in a matter-of-fact tone. I sat in silence the rest of the way to Mystic Falls.
The boarding school didn't really look all that bad. Nova was going to meet us here so I had decided to wait in the car until Stefan got done talking to Alaric. "You'll like it here," Rebekah said calmly. "Don't lie, you know I can tell when you're lying," I said. She scoffed. "You have been around Damon and Niklaus too much," she said. I smiled. "Grandpa always taught me best and uncle Nik always liked to make sure I could take care of myself," I said. She rolled her eyes. "Damon doesn't look like a grandfather, it creeps me out sometimes, even though I've been around long enough to have a long line of descendants myself," she said. I frowned. I hated when Rebekah brought up having children. I loved her and all, but she was still bitter that she didn't really have any children of her own. I felt pity for her, but I would never let her know that I did. She had raised me and been more of a mother to me than anyone else. That's when I felt relief when I saw Stefan come out of the boarding house walking beside a taller man. He had brown hair and green eyes. He was in his forties. His name was Alaric. I opened the car door and stepped out. Alaric stopped and looked me over. He was looking for something. "What are you searching for?" I asked. Stefan frowned. "You just stunned me for a moment. The last time I saw you, you looked like a ten year old kid," he said. He was lying. "Alaric, if you are going to lie to me, at least try to make it a good one," I said smiling. He smiled back. "A kid who knows you're lying, great," he said looking at Stefan. Stefan just shrugged his shoulders. "He is exceptionally smart Alaric," Rebekah said getting out of the car. "Hello to you too Rebekah," Alaric said giving her a sarcastic smile. She narrowed her eyes and put her hands on her hips. "Alaric, I know you were stunned, but it was because I look more like her now," I said trying to divert the storm that was fixing to blow up. He stared at me. "Sorry kid, I just couldn't help it," he said giving me a grim smile. "It's fine," I said. He gave me a quick nod and that's when I saw two girls come out of the school. One was tall and blonde haired, the other was a little shorter with dark brown hair and brown eyes. They stopped beside Alaric. "Wolfram, these are my daughters, Lizzy and Josie," he said introducing them. It had been a while. They had almost grown up. Josie gave me an innocent smile while Lizzy was practically getting me naked with her eyes. "Hello twins," I said giving them a smile. Lizzy would have melted right there if it hadn't been for Josie's arm linking hers. "Hello Wolfram, it's nice to see you back here," Lizzy said. I smiled. I'm sure she was glad.
"Stefan, Niklaus called and told me the others would be visiting for a few days just to get to know the people and see what they would like to do about their education," Alaric said. "The rest are coming?" Josie asked. "Yeah, only for a few days, but some, or all, may stay to study," Alaric said. I could tell that it made him uneasy. "Trust me Alaric, we get just as uneasy around supernaturals as you do around us. Nobody likes our family, nobody likes that we are mixed up, and nobody likes that we are different," I said. "Is he immune to not being so blunt?" Alaric asked looking at Stefan. "Or maybe he just learned it growing up," Alaric said looking at Rebekah. I knew he was picking, but she didn't. Before she could start in on him, I grabbed her arm gently. "He's just picking. He knows he can get you in a mess," I said. She looked at me for a moment and then her head swiveled to Alaric. "If anything happens to him while he is here, your head is mine," she said. "Have fun Wolfram, I'll be back with the devil later. Nova called me and said she would be here for lunch," Stefan said giving me a clap on the back. I nodded and watched as Rebekah and Stefan got into the car and left. I was left standing there with the twins and the headmaster. I turned to look at Alaric. "How is Jo?" I asked. He smiled. "She is doing just fine. Right now she is working on looking at a witch that cast a spell wrong," he said. I laughed. "We need to have a talk," I said. He nodded and I followed him into the school and into his office. The girls had stopped to talk to some other figures as we had entered the building. People were staring. They had no idea who I was, but I figured within just a few minutes everyone would.
I followed Alaric into his office and sat down in one of the chairs. He sat down at his desk and moved some papers. "What is the real reason Klaus is sending all of you up here? You don't need schooling," Alaric said. I sighed. "We moved back to New Orleans a few weeks ago and it seems that since Katherine and Kai have broken out of their prison worlds, my mother is trying to find a way back to defeat them both. She made contact after we left for here, through Elena's body. Alaric we have to bring her back and if we do, we have to find a way to keep her alive. Stefan and Rebekah said that mother couldn't use help from anyone else to defeat Katherine and Kai for good, but I can't lose her. I never even got to know her. There is also another problem," I said. He narrowed his eyes. "I found my mate," I said. His eyes widened. He was speechless. I gave him a few moments to let everything sink in. "You have a mate?" he asked. I nodded. "What is she?" he asked. "Well, that's the thing. My powers are still growing and usually I can tell if a supernatural is in the area, but with her, she is human. Or, at least, that's what I thought. Apparently Klaus and Caroline, along with grandpa and Elena, think differently. They think she at least has a tie to wolves. Her name is Luna Lanier," I said. He nodded. "I can get Dorian to help me with some digging. She may be like Hayley was, except without her killing a human, she won't turn," he said. "I want to keep it that way if I can. She can't know about the supernatural world," I said. He frowned even deeper. "How are you not going to tell her?" he asked. I sighed. "I was planning on letting her live her life without ever knowing me. I could do that for her," I said. He raised his eyebrows. "You would watch her as she grows older and marries a man, has children, lives a long and full life and then dies?" he asked. I sat there for a moment. "If it means that she gets to live a normal and happy life, with love and kindness, I would do it in a heartbeat," I said. "And if she turns out to be a supernatural?" he asked. "One bridge to cross at a time headmaster," I said. He smiled. "Very well. I already had a few classes put on the list, thought you might find them interesting and want to check them out. As for that last one, the history lesson is just between me and you. So, don't be late, because we have field trips to take. Especially if you want to get to know your mother before she arrives," he said. I looked at his face. "You are going to help?" I asked. He smiled. "I will do everything I can to bring her back. But, that is because Katherine and Kai almost killed my girls and wife one time before, each, I won't let that happen again," he said. I nodded. At least I had help in bringing her back. I just needed some more help in keeping her here.
