4 • Kamoshida's Castle

4/15 After School

I turned around the corner, running at full speed away from a giant group of Shadows, and nearly ran into two people and a cat. Specifically the two Shujin students and that weird talking cat.

"What are you doing back? Haven't you learned how dangerous it is here?" I ask.

"Ah!" Ryuji screamed while Akira jumped a little.

"Shh, you'll draw the shadows"

I heard the stomping of heavy feet heading in our direction, one of the king's guards, a Shadow. There was a safe room right beside us, one that the Shadows wouldn't be able to find us in unless they saw us go in. It was pretty much a safe room. I shoved them both into the room, quickly shutting the doors.

"Hey!"

"Hush up," I hissed, covering his mouth with my hand while glaring at him. "Can you not shut your mouth?"

"He hasn't stopped every time I told him to," a voice said.

I looked at the table to see a small creature that looked like a cat standing there. I blinked a couple times, moving away from the blond, still in shock that there was a talking cat.

"I'm Morgana, my code name is Mona"

"Mhmm. But what are you?"

"I'm not a cat, so don't call me one. But I don't know what I am, I think I'm a human"

"Okay. Now who are you two?"

"I'm Skull, he's Joker," Ryuji told me.

Joker's outfit consisted of a black ankle-length tailcoat, a high-necked waistcoat with gold accents, black jogger-style pants, brown-black winklepickers, and a pair of red gloves. His mask was a black and white, birdlike domino mask. His expression and demeanor were also markedly different and there's a strong air of confidence to him compared to his usual self.

Skull had matching black jacket and pants with knee pads, a red ascot, combat boots, a pair of yellow gloves, and a skull mask. But his attitude seemed to remain the same.

"I get it, you're using code names. Smart move"

"What's your code name?" Mona asked me.

"Spectra"

"Why Spectra?"

"I'm a Phantom Thief. I move around soundlessly, you can't hear when I appear next to you. I'm there one second, gone the next. In one world I'm all anyone sees, in another I'm invisible. I thought it was a good fit"

"Which world are you invisible in?" Joker asked.

"If you think it's this one, it isn't. In the real world I'm invisible, no one notices me, as if I were a ghost. I'm there but not there completely," I said with a shrug.

"C'mon, you can't be that invisible in the real world," Skull said, sounding sceptical.

"I don't spend a lot of time in the real world, most of the time I'm here, raiding Palaces. Normally, if I'm not here, I'm in the Velvet Room. The real world is full of fakes, too many people hiding the truth for me to handle"

"The Velvet Room?"

I saw a flash of recognition rush through Joker's eyes. He knew what I was talking about, it was that weird world where he met Igor, Caroline and Justine. But of course he was the one that had to know about it, he was the main character in this whole situation. Everything seemed to revolve around him, wether he wanted it to or not.
