I helped him stand up. This poor boy has been here for hours maybe. Umuulan pa. Hay nako napano ba naman to si mama.
"Dahan dahan lang." I wrapped my arm around his torso while the other held the umbrella.
"No.." He stopped.
"Alex naman eh. Magkakasakit ka na niyan. At least get dried up and warm up." I pulled him back towards our house.
"Ayaw ako ng mama mo doon." He bowed his head and distanced himself from me.
"So? That doesn't mean pwede kita pabayaan na magka hypothermia, loko." I have a speck of hate for this boy pero I will never leave someone to die in this cold weather. Even if it wasn't Alex. It even looks like wala siyang dalang sasakyan. Ano ba 'tong ginagawa niya? Penance?
I swung my hand back around Alex's back and led him through the gate. I didn't bother digging my bag for the keys and just rung the doorbell.
In less than a minute, binuksan na ni yaya yung pinto. "Leona..." Umikot yung mata niya sa aming dalawa ni Alex. Talaga bang hindi nila pinapasok 'to? Tinawag ni yaya si mama na natataranta kung anong gagawin niya. I know my mom's in the law industry but does she really have to be this heartless?
"Leona..." My mom's smile was wiped off her face when she saw Alex shivering beside me.
"Anong ginagawa niya dito?" Nanigas yung mukha niya at lumibot yung mata niya sa kamay kong naka palupot sa likod ni Alex.
"Kelan pa siya naghintay doon?" She still wasn't letting us in by blocking the doorway.
"Naghintay siya?" She looked at Alex at he wasn't looking at her. "Yes! Long enough to make him shiver under the rain. Do you plan on having a freezing corpse on your driveway?" I didn't know what I was doing. Or saying.
"I never told him to wait." She pursed her lips, obviously ashamed. She moved out of the way and pumasok ako kasama si Alex.
"I just need to warm him up at aalis na siya." I explained.
My mom left us kasama niya si yaya. She obviously is disappointed in me. I made Alex sit down a chair in the dining area. I took a towel from my cabinet and wrapped him in it. Just being wrapped like that, he already seemed much better. Hinaplos ko yung noo niya to check if nilalagnat ba siya. He held my hand and I froze. We stood there like that for a couple of seconds before I pulled my hand away. I heard him whisper a "sorry" but I didn't let him know I heard.
Nag-init na ako ng tubig sa microwave kanina and I heard it make a beeping noise. I walked away from the awkwardness between me and Alex and opened the microwave door.
"Coffee or cocoa?" I asked while taking the mug out of the microwave. It almost slipped out of my hand and burnt me a little bit.
"Shoot." Nilapag ko yung mug sa counter. I felt Alex's eyes on me but I didn't bother looking back. A small patch on my hand got pink and swollen. I tried blowing on it but it hurt more.
"Napaso ka?" Bago ko pa namalayan nasa tabi ko na si Alex at kiuha niya yung kamay ko. We were so close that it made my spine shiver. I just atared at him and he examined my hand.
"A-alex." I whimpered as he blew on it.
"S-sorry. May ice kayo?" I looked at him in the eyes for the first time tonight and I just noticed all the little details that made him Alex. He had a tiny mole on his cheek and his little scar on his eyebrow he got as a kid jumping on the bed. But I also noticed how stress made him look terrible. Handsome but terrible. He had purple circles under his eyes and his rosy cheeks were declined of color. His lips were chapped. What happened to you, Alex.
