Chapter 37: Catch Me

**Next day**

You were back at the hospital with Todoroki to visit your mom.

Yesterday, he was a little surprised that you invited him to come with you, but he was glad he accepted, especially after seeing your face light up at his answer.

You paused, turning your head at Todoroki and placing a hand on the door handle.

"Thanks for coming with me, Shoto. It really means a lot that you're here-" You started to say and opening the door to your mom's room with a grateful smile adorning your face.

You didn't get to hear or see his reaction because your smile faded once you opened the door. You gasped, your mom nowhere to be seen.

It wasn't a huge room so there was really no place for her to hide.

Your eyes still frantically searched around the room but they ultimately landed on the only spot that made sense, the open window.

"Mom, MOM?!" Your breathing became rapid as you began to panic.

You stuck your head out the window, almost squeezing your body out too as you peeked outside.

There was no trace of her, even her scent was hard to pick up on.

"NURSE?! WHERE'S THE NURSE?!" You roared, head moving left and right.

The few people outside the building gave you strange looks.

You gasped, feeling a hand yank you by the arm and pull you back inside.

Todoroki had a worried and serious expression showing in his heterochromatic eyes as he handed you a plain white envelope.

"I found it on the bedside table."

You wordlessly took the envelope from him.

Your name was written on the outside in bold letters.

You immediately recognized your mom's handwriting. Without haste, you opened the letter.

'My Dearest Daughter,

I'm sorry I have to leave again...but I must go after your father.

I know it's hard for you to understand why, especially when you ask me 'Why do you still care about him?' or 'Why do you keep defending him?'.

I didn't get to finish telling you my story, but the answer to those questions is that you don't give up on the people you love.

You're working so hard to become a Hero. A Hero saves strangers every day, so what more will you do for the people closest to you? I hope you keep this in mind when it comes to those two boys. I want to meet them some day.

Lastly, I don't have a lot of regrets in my life, but I know every time I leave you it's one of those times. I hope one day you can forgive me.

When you got to the end of the letter, you ended up inadvertently crumpling it up and crying and falling into Todoroki's arms again.

He patted your back comfortingly, not caring that your tears were staining his shirt.

"What did the letter say...?" Todoroki asked gently, pulling you away from him slightly to check on your current state.

"S-She's gone. She left me again...she went to look for him again." You hiccuped.

"Who's him...?"
