IT WAS A LAST MINUTE DECISION.
One minute I was staring at the ivory letter in my hand; the next I was packing up a bag and leaving the two story white house. Dad understood-- at least, he understood the lie that I told him. I guess that it wasn't so far off from the truth. I wanted to leave Forks for a while; the thought of my twin sister getting married sent my mind into a frenzy. The time that she was going to be human was running out, and instead of spending time with her while I could, I ran.
I had plans to be back. I didn't pack enough things to stay away from longer than a month or so. Unless, I used my savings and was able to stay away for longer-- I double checked my bag for my wallet before nodding; I had my check book.
I was scared. The possibility of not seeing my sister for the rest of my life was heart breaking. We were supposed to grow old together and have big families of our own. We were supposed to make fun of each other in our old age, but now I'll be the only one that gets older. I'll be the only one having a family and becoming old.
I told everyone I understood why Bella wanted the life she was leading, but only one person knew the true story.
I bit my lip as I looked at the small red cottage in front of me. It was early in the morning, too early for Billy to be awake-- I had only ran into Dad because he was on his way to work.
I quietly walked towards the window that belonged to Jacob's room. With my lip still between my teeth, I knocked. Rumbling came from the other side, probably thinking that I was one of the pack. The window lifted and a sleepy-eyed Jacob looked down towards me. It took him a moment to realize who I was, but the second that he did, his eyes popped open.
"Jules, what are you doing? It's freezing outside." He reached out a hand towards me, trying to help me get inside his room.
"I need to leave." His brows furrowed at my words. "It's suffocating at the house. I can't be there right now."
"You can stay here--"
I was already shaking my head at his request. "I rented a cabin down in Montana; the dates are set. I'm leaving today." I paused, watching the hurt expression flash across his beautiful face. "I'm hoping you'll come with me."
I sighed as the wind from the window blew back my hair. The further away from Forks, the more I felt able to breath.
"I can't believe you talked me into running away."
I glanced over towards Jacob, as he calmly drove across the highway. He tightened his hold on my hand before sending me a gentle smile; letting me know that he was joking.
"I didn't talk you into running away," I protested. "I talked you into taking a vacation. We both need it."
After the fight with the newborns, the pack has been running double patrols, to make sure that no stray vampire could come in through their defenses. Add that to the stress the pack is facing from Bella marrying Edward, it's been a hectic two weeks.
The only person that knew that we left was my dad. He was the one that helped pick out a cabin. Though, I did fail to mention that Jacob would be joining me in this get-away trip. If Billy mentions anything-- which I'm sure he will-- I'll be sure to hear about it later on.
"Only eight more hours until we reach our destination," Jacob muttered with fake excitement.
I chuckled while stretching my legs out in front of me. Only eight more hours until complete relaxation. No supernatural entities, no marriage drama, no alpha's breathing down anyone's back. Complete and total isolation.
I couldn't be more excited.
