Before we start, have some cute dialogue from the lovely boys of Paradise:
Luca: This book ends?!
Zion: What do you think this is? The numbers on the math line that you can't count? No, this is a book, dummy.
Leighton: B-but when does it end?...
Zion: Oh, oh no.
Zion: This chapter...
Leighton: My whole life is going to come crashing down! Call my lawyer, the unicorns will never let me go!
Luca: I'm going to destroy the screens people read this book on just like the mirrors in chapter four. Nice try to end me, fucker!
————————
When I had woken up, the first thing I thought of is 'Am I alive or am I just surviving?', the two both very different things. But the feelings of a hand holding mine and the gentle press of lips to my cheek told me I'm alive.
I am alive.
"Where are we?" I questioned, looking up to the ceiling that had been painted with angels, almost like the one that was in Zero's room. Expect this one was older and had more optimism, Zeros' art was full of tragedy in the form of love.
"Quinn said this was his Aunt's house yet she seems to be nowhere," Leighton chirped from the end of the bed, "But it doesn't matter. Have you seen how much technology has advanced, the cars, the microwaves? Everything!"
Zero chuckled, wandering around the large medical room. "Luca's only just woke up now, Lee, give him some time to take in his surroundings." He sent me a large smile, acknowledging that fact that we're free.
Shit, we are free. Free. Free!
I shot up in the bed, only for a pain in my shoulder to throw me back to the bed. I pressed my hand to the burning sensation only to feel several stitches.
You got stabbed, remember?
Everything flashed before my eyes, escaping Paradise, the silver digging into my flesh, Mason's terror-struck face. Mason.
"Where's Mason?" I sat up with the help of Zero, looking round for Mason's at the same time. Leighton and Zion day at the end of the bed while Zero stood next to me. No sign of Mason at all.
"He went outside with River, I can carry you outside if you want to see them, Kiddo?" I nodded at Zero, allowing him to carefully loop his arms around me and carry me down the hallway as Leighton and Zion followed.
The whole place seemed clean- like someone had been here before us but had quickly left without any personal belongings. Something about this place is off, the eye's that watch you through the paintings. Everything and anything.
Suddenly a cool breeze wrapped around me, a golden fireball smiling at me, telling me that everything will be okay. We're free, we're safe, together. "I-I can't believe it, Ze-Zero, we're free," I whispered, hoping that this wasn't just my head playing tricks.
Zero placed me on the lush green grass, covering his head with a New York Ranger's Cap, "You better start believing it, Kid, because we are free." He laughed, a proper laugh, not one full of sorrow or the need to cheer someone up. A real laugh full of sugar-sweet love making me feel like a kid in a candy store.
Charlie, Keegan, and Cole all sat in a circle. Cole held flowers in his hands as Charlie crawled around in the space looking for flowers to collect for him. Keegan sat with a flower crown on his head, no doubt his own work as most of the flowers had been crushed. Yet they all sat with euphoria on their face and the comfort of each other embedding in their skin like a tattoo.
Leighton and Zion were rolling about in the grass, falling on top of each other as the rolled down a hill. Leighton's laughter could be heard for miles, and the grin on his face would be stuck in my head for years.
I looked behind me at the sight of the enormous mansion, which Zero said belonged to Quinn's Aunt yet she seemed to be nowhere in sight. When I asked more questions about her, he quickly tried to divert the conversation like there were more secrets he was keeping from me.
Am I not trustworthy?
Beryl came slandering out of the mansion, a bottle in his hand and worrying Quinn in tow. "Woooo! Look who has a whole lifetime supply of alcohol! Me!" He shouted, tipsily running over to Zero and I, "Want some, mate?" He didn't seem too drunk, yet.
"I tried to tell him that that the thing was disparaging for his brain yet he only managed to convince me to have some." Quinn shook his head, a small smile on his face.
Suddenly, Mason came running out the forest, blood drenching him all over. Please tell me it isn't his, please. He waved his hands back and forth, inaudible screams coming off him.
River stepped out of the woods, a limping bloodstained boy running out of his arms and charging at us with a sharp bladed knife pointing at us all. "What have you done with Genesis Young?" He shouted, fresh blood from his knife dripping onto the green grass.
"My aunt," Quinn stepped in front of me, "What do you want with her?"
The boy stepped forward, his tan skin shining in the sun. The knife dropped to the floor and he fell to his knee's, "Paradise. They got to her already." He mumbled stray tear's escaped his pitch-black eyes.
Keegan stepped forward, his looming presence dominating over the boy. He snatched the knife away from the boy, pointing it at him as he lowers to his level. "Why are you covered in blood?"
"Because Paradise is here, for all of us."
