Ok, so just to start off, this chapter is not me questioning my sexuality, but rather, the concept in general. If someone were to ask my opinion, I would say that I don't encourage LGBT behavior, but if someone I knew fell into that category, I wouldn't hate them. I would still love them as much as I do with my straight friends. It's not my life, so I can't tell them what to do. I really don't care if people are LGBT, to be honest.
But to continue my questioning. I've always wanted to know why people are attracted to the same gender. It's always been a question I've had, but now that I have friends and have met people who are like that, I've decided to write my thoughts down.
So I guess we can all agree that sexuality is just a mere concept. What is sexuality? Are we just born into it, or can it evolve?
In science we were discussing natural selection. Could being gay be an adaptation in society that will cause our species to live longer? I don't foresee that making any difference in society because there hasn't been a species that attracts to the opposite sex.
(Seahorses don't count because they're both male and female.)
So does that mean that sexuality is just a mutation? Does that mean we can't control our attraction? Is it like an IQ number, which can't be moved in a lifetime?
Or...
Is it able to be shifted; can someone be attracted to men as a teenager, then become more attracted to women as they become an adult? Can people who are attracted to the same gender still be attracted to the opposite gender?
There are so many questions running through my mind. I don't even understand why. I guess I just find it fascinating that humans can be attracted to the same gender. All my life I thought that we were embedded into becoming attracted to the opposite gender, for reproductive reasoning, but I guess now that because we don't have a need to populate as much anymore, some mutations/different state of minds were allowed to come through.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Does anyone else have these same questions or am I just being weird?
