NO CHANCE

❝ tangled thoughts, twisted words,
mixed-up feelings, loving hurts ❞

A COMFORTABLE SILENCE SETTLED OVER the two teenagers as they stood in the mellow light of the dusk, the fall breeze rifling through her luscious [c/h/c] locks.

"You know, she's funny" She began, her [c/e/c] eyes piercing the sunset laid out before them, causing my breath to catch. "Life"

"Really?" I couldn't help but smile as I let my eyes roam around the picture perfect scenery in front of me: [c/n], the setting sun, the fading glow of October sunset, it was like a piece by Leonardo da Vinci. How had I never seen it before?

"And what makes you think that?"

"She loves a good joke" She said heartily, laughing hollowly. "Playing games, causing chaos - it's what she was made to do. But-"

"Playing with our feelings isn't the best joke in the world, isn't it?" I took a tentative step forward. "Especially for us? But that's the way it is. It's the most amusing game to her, [c/n/n]"

She exhaled heavily, feeling her eyes water slightly at the old nickname. "Don't call me that"

"I'm sorry, [y/n]"

"To be honest, you can never really choose who you fall for" She spoke again, her voice as ethereal as I would imagine an angel's to be. I sighed. She was my everything, and yet, she didn't know. How was the world so cruel? "You wish you could, but...nah. It just isn't how things work"

"Yeah" I cast my eyes downward. "But you know what really sucks? Falling for someone whose heart already belongs to another"

She gave me a sad, sad sigh, looking as if my words had dropped an anchor in her heart. I sucked in a breath as the tension in the room grew tenfold.

"Guess we both will always have more to add to the big horrible cake that is our love lives, huh?" [c/n] chuckled dryly.

"I don't know, [c/n]" I whispered. "Will we?"

She remained silent.

"I'm tired of chasing after what I want, [c/n]" I told her wearily, crossing the distance between both of us in one long stride, capturing her into my arms. "I'm sick and tired of asking questions. I want my answers, and now. I'm not hunting for them anywhere"

"Answers, [y/n]?" She mumbled quietly against my collarbone. "You want answers? You don't have to hunt. They're all in you, love. Buried somewhere deep within, and all you need is a push to get you through"

"Tell me, then, [c/n]" I pleaded, my hand moving itself to her cheek, the pads of my thumb rubbing against her skin. "Tell me how"

[c/n] lifted her arm, tears brimming at the corners of her eyes as she slowly eased my hand off her skin, pushing me away again and building up her walls again. For one moment, she had been so vulnerable; so broken that I thought I could reach her shattered pieces, and put them back. That there was a glimmer, however small, of hope, that she would let me fix her.

"I don't know"

"[c/n] [c/m/n] [c/l/n]" I managed out in a terse whisper. "You are the most knowledgeable person I know. If anyone knows, it's you"

"For that, I want you to answer a question" She looked up at me through defiant [c/e/c] eyes, creating butterflies in my stomach and sparks under my skin. The feelings I had missed so very much, the love I'd always dreamed of having.

"What sucks more? Falling for someone who loved another, or falling for someone you have no chance with?"

I stayed silent, my [e/c] eyes searching hers as she finally let the tears fall.

"We have no chance, [y/n]. No chance"
