➤ IT'S ALWAYS BEEN YOU
❝i choose you, over and over again,
in a thousand lifetimes, i would find you,and i would choose you.❞

"IT WAS LIKE A VEIL, hanging before my inner consciousness."
Her blazing eyes found yours. Even hidden behind her gold-plated, heart-lifting mask, you instantly recognized those beautiful [c/e/c] eyes. How could you not? They shone brighter to you, than any of the several stars littering the night sky. [c/n] [c/l/n] would always be the most beautiful thing you had ever clapped eyes on.
"But suddenly it lifted," You smiled gently in remembrance. "And I was Elizabeth Bennet, dancing with Mr Darcy. Every time our hands touched, it was..."
Indescribable.
It would always be indescribable.
The way your fingers fit together, like two puzzle pieces meant to meet. The way she looked at you, as if someone could set her whole world on fire and it wouldn't matter, because in that moment, you were with her, and everything was just right.
"Last night, I asked [y/n] if she thought, there was a chance for us," [c/n] ran her fingers through her hair in frustration.
But then she said those words.
The ones you wished you never had to hear, because why did you? Everything had been going so perfectly; just you, her and the mellifluous beats. Why did she have to ask such a...dangerous question?
"I don't know what to say," you answered honestly.
"And how?" My mood shifted slightly as I recounted that ill-fated moment. "How could she have expected me to know, in that moment, that I–that– "
My words failed me, but there was no more denying the truth. O, the cold, hard truth.
"I love her."
Perhaps love unfolds out of a burgeoning friendship, you had once told her.
But this wasn't love.
You stared, at a loss for words, as [c/n] faced the girl who had just confessed to her, smiling sadly as she spoke, "[y/n] doesn't have feelings for me."
Yes, you do.
But you, personally, you would never have the courage to tell her that, like she had done so effortlessly, so easily, so beautifully.
"Maybe it's better if she doesn't love me, I mean, next to true love the best thing is, unrequited love!" Even as you said the words, heartache ripped across your chest, telling you confidently that you were wrong in every sense of the word.
"We're romantic, if you think about it," you poke up. [c/n]'s gaze was long, and calculative, and you could only watch her, and realise slowly that [c/n] [c/l/n], was the closest to magic, as you were ever going to get.
"And you love this [c/n] [c/l/n]?"
Your best friend's words were quiet but purposeful, but you had only one answer. You knew the way you laughed, smiled, and merely existed around [c/n] [c/l/n], and that there would never be anyone else who could make you as truly complete in life as [c/n] did.
"I love [c/n] [c/l/n]."
"That is not what I meant," you said firmly.
"Yes, it is!" [c/n] cried. "You don't love me, [y/n]! How could you ever?"
"It doesn't matter now," you sighed. "It's too late."
"And how is this about me?" You asked softly, afraid of the answer.
"It's not," she sighed.
"And how do you know it's too late?"
"After all these years," she chuckled. "We make such a good...T-E-A-M."
"Tragical romance and all?" you smiled.
"Remains to be seen," she told you, clasping my fingers.
You did not answer. You did not want to.
Truth is, you did not know.
"It's always been you," [c/n] mumbled into your ear. "And it always will be."
Then she kissed you. And it didn't feel like electricity, or sunshine, or even rainbows, as you had first imagined her kiss would be. Instead, it was all three at once; like a part of your soul had finally been restored to you as she connected your lips, holding you to her as if you two were the only real bits left of the world.
"It's never too late for love, [y/n]."
