HAUNTED HOUSE MISFITS

❝ there are some thoughts you can't avoid,
and some feelings you can't deny.❞

I GRIT MY TEETH TOGETHER.

"We need to talk"

Without bothering to wait for a response I locked two fingers around her wrist and dragged her away into the nearest corridor: a musty little sidetrack from the rest of the attraction, with a brilliant gold chandelier and wood-paned floors that looked ready to give in. I turned to her, my eyes blazing.

"You're not fucking dying for anyone here, [c/n], let me make that clear-"

"Fuck, don't do this, [y/n]!" She pleaded. "We're locked in a demon-infested house. Just let me protect you, I can't have you- or any of the others- dying, especially knowing I could have done something about it!"

I rolled my eyes to the sky. "Why does somebody always have to die in this scenario?!"

She groaned, tugging at her roots. "You don't seem to understand the situation at hand here!"

"No, [c/n], I do! But I've watched so many horror movies I know exactly what to do here! It's not that major, until and unless-"

A sudden gust of wind blew into the corridor. The walls shook as if waves of energy were impounding against them, and the glass on the windowpanes cracked steadily. Below me, the floorboards rattled violently, throwing me off balance. But luckily, she had always been there to catch me and this time was no exception.

I tumbled into her arms, squeaking slightly in alarm. But her arms wound faithfully around me, clasping me by the waist and holding me up. I made a wild grab for her shoulder and did not miss, her pulling me up but not letting go.

"Can you stand?" She asked me worriedly. I nodded and fixed my feet on the shaking floor. A piece of ceiling suddenly collapsed a mere five inches away from me and she screamed.

I knew for certain my eyes were glinting. I could not deny it, paranormal activity and horror was always something I'd loved. Nobody really understood my fascination with blood and gore- they called it disgusting. Well, except her. She always seemed to be the exception.

She turned to me, her [c/e/c] eyes piercing my [e/c] ones. "I cannot believe you!" She nearly screamed. "We're at risk of dying here and you're actually fucking excited!"

"[c/n/n], my love, you know I'm a sucker for these things, I really can't help-" A stark creak emanated around us and I looked up to see the crystal chandelier swinging, it's bolts unscrewing. I fisted the shoulder of her shirt in my hand, giving one sharp tug as the chandelier plummeted, and we went soaring backwards.

"[Y/N]!" I could hear my friends shouting desperately. "[C/N]!"

With a sink in my heart I realized that we were still clasping onto each other, and I was below her. Shards of glass and fragments of gold lay on the ground and I squeezed my eyes shut, waiting for impact, the feeling of thousand knives digging into my back-

And then we were on the floor, but I was not the one with crystal digging into my body. As my eyes opened I gasped. Somewhere along our flight she had twisted so she would be under me, and her arms had tightened.

"[c/n]!" I whispered out shakily. "Are you- are you okay?"

I felt like bursting into tears and hugging her close to me until I received surety that she would never leave my side ever again. But somehow that did not seem like the appropriate thing to do. No elder had accompanied us into the house. I was the next fittest leader, what with the several Prefect, Captain and class monitor titles, and I knew I was responsible for how my friends reacted from this moment forth. I had to keep my front strong.

"I'm alright" She winced, swearing as she flexed her muscles. "Are you?"

"Perfect" I said honestly. "[c/n/n], your back-"

"It's nothing" She dismissed. I shot her a worried look; I could tell that wasn't nothing, her back would hurt every time she moved her arms.

"You didn't have to do that" I expressed honestly as she examined her tricep. "Turn us around. I could have taken the fall"

Her quizzical look morphed into skepticism. "[y/n/n], you and I both know you could never have sustained that" She told me carefully. "You're so little and fragile. Plus, I promised you I'd always protect you, didn't I? I stand by it"

I took a deep breath. "I'm not little and fragile"

She fought back a hollow laugh. "Really?"

"Yes. I may be small, but I'm not fragile"

"Prove it"

My eyes glittered maliciously as I smirked up at her. My fingers found the collar of her sweatshirt and the last thing I saw was her shocked face as I drew her to a hunch and pressed my lips full upon hers.

She gasped in alarm and I used the opportunity to slip my tongue into her mouth. I could hear shuffling behind the crevice, our friends were stirring. But as her arms wound around me I knew any hope of self-control was lost. I elbowed her in the stomach, receiving the intended effect as she stumbled long enough for me to slam her against the wall.

"[c/n]? [y/n]?" Their voices sounded like distant bells. We broke apart for air, her expression astounded.

"Still fragile to you, darling?"

She opened her mouth hotly to answer, just as our three friends rounded the corner. Just in time.

"Thank God!" Alexia rushed towards us, plucking me from [c/n]'s grip and embracing me hurriedly. "We thought you'd be crushed!"

"We're fine, Alex" I laughed, exchanging a glistening smirk with [c/n]. "But we have to leave this place, as soon as possible."

What happens in the haunted house, stays in the haunted house.
