6 : Need a Little Help

(yep the title sucks sorry)

ALTERNATE UNIVERSE
I'm changing Hiccup's name to Harold because that's his name in the french version hehe!

ASTRID P.O.V

My day had seemed to go by in slow motion. I'd been so close to fall asleep in both of my classes and had only managed to read 5 pages instead of the 20 I intended to read for my class on the next day. I couldn't wait to go home and curl up in my bed. I was hoping to spend the night watching Netflix and eating popcorn, but I still had some reading and studying to do.

The ride from college to home seemed longer than usual as well. After spending a good twenty minutes stuck in traffic, I finally had reached my little suburb town, where the roads were less crowded. I still had a good ten minutes of driving left.

I heard a strange noise, which I hoped had not come from my car, but it started moving strangely as if there were bumps all over the road. A little light appeared in the dashboard.

"Shit," I muttered and pulled over. Now really wasn't the time. After this long day I had no patience left in me and I knew nothing about cars.

The street was deserted when I stepped out of my car. I walked around and saw the flat tire, at the back of the car, driver's side. I sighed. Better call my dad. Hopefully he'd already be home from work and could come help me out.

I opened the door of the passenger side and searched for my phone in my bag. After finding it, I tried to open it but the screen stayed black.

"You've got to be kidding me!" I said to myself. My phone was dead. I was so tired and just wanted to go home... and I had no idea what to do.

I figured my best bet was for someone to notice me so I could ask them to borrow their phone. Yet, two cars had already passed by without stopping.

I opened up the trunk, checking that I had a spare tire. At least one thing was right. I still did not have the tools or the knowledge to change a tire. A third car passed by without stopping. I'd probably have to wave at them to ask for their phone.

"Stupid car," I mumbled and sat in the grass next to it. I sighed.

A balck truck pulled over, behind mine and I sighed once more, of relief this time. The young man stepped out of his car. He looked like any other college kid, messy hair, grey t-shirt and a pair of jeans. But he had that smile that just... There was something about it I could not decribe.

"Car problems?" he asked as I got up. I smiled at him in return, as he was my only hope of getting home today.

"Yeah, uh... Flat tire. My phone's dead, so I could just borrow yours?" I asked and bit my lip.

"Sure. I could also help you change your tire. If you have a spare," he suggested.

"Really? I... Um, that would be amazing! I have no idea how to do this, but I do have a spare tire! You're uh... Well, thank you," she babbled.

"Let me just get the tools in my truck," he said, with that smirk that didn't seem to want to fade away. Astrid walked over to her own trunk and pulled out the spare tire she had. The guy came back with a small tool box.

"I'm Astrid, by the way," she started. "I really appreciate you helping me,"

"I'm Hiccup," he started but something in his eyes changed. "No, uh..." he mumbmed. "I'm Harold," he said, louder and clearer.

"Hiccup, huh?"Astrid teased.

"Old nickname. Everyone calls me that now and well, you get used to it," he said, walking over to the flat tire.

"I like it," Astrid replied and shrugged.

(I'm skipping through the tire changing because I'm like Astrid and got no idea how to do it.)

I sighed when I saw the new tire finally fixed.

"Thank you!" she said. "Is there anything I could... I think I've got like 10$ in my wallet, it's not much, but-"

"Don't worry about it," he replied. I'll just go put my tools back in my car, but I just need to check on something before you go,"

Astrid stayed outside her car as he got back to his truck. He then walked over to the driver's seat of her car and seemed to check a few things in her dashboard. He got out and handed her back the keys she'd just handed him.

"You're good to go," he said.

"Thank you so much! Really is there anything I can do? Are you sure you don't want that 10$?" she replied and he laughed.

"No, it's fine. Have a good day, Astrid!" he walked over to his truck and opened the door.

"Hey, Harold!" she called.

"Yeah?"

"Thanks again," she said and he smiled at her before getting in his car. She waved at him as he left.

She got into her own car and was about to leave but saw a paper on her dashboard. It seemed to be an old receipt, but something was written on the back of it.

So I don't usually do this, but there was a feeling I just couldn't shake. You don't have to use it, but I'm giving it a shot.

He'd left her his number.

Astrid drove back home with a smile on her face.
