As Lola had planned, she was spending New Years with Jamal, Chris and Luke and Jamal's girlfriend. She was able to get Michael invited too and the next day she had agreed to have a meal with their whole family.
She was in her room getting ready and listening to some music. When she was done she texted Michael and applied another layer of lipgloss before heading downstairs.
She saw her dad sitting on the couch watching tv and decided to sit with him.
"I thought Jennifer was coming over" Lola said.
"Yeah she's coming over later" Lucas smiled. "Do you like her?"
"Yeah, she's really nice. And she's not bad at cooking either." Lola said referring to their Christmas dinner.
"That's good" he grinned. "She likes you too, she was a little scared to meet you at first though" Lola sat down and put her phone aside as he started telling her about their day planned and how she had a surprise for him. Lola smiled at him. He was smiling a lot more since he started dating Jennifer, he constantly had a grin on his face and was less stressed. Though he still worked his normal shifts at work, she saw him more often, though she was sure it was because Jennifer had influenced him to do so. And it was nice for Lola to come downstairs and see Jennifer with a genuine smile on her face every so often, someone who she could talk to.
Eventually, Lucas stopped talking, though Lola hadn't noticed since he was waffling so much.
"Lola, Jennifer's pregnant" Lucas said.
Lola's jaw dropped and she stared at her father intensely for a couple of seconds, her eyes dated from his left eye to his right eye and then her lip twitched into a tiny smile.
Her nose scrunched up a little "I'm gonna be a big sister" she said quietly to herself and giggled a little. "Are you serious?" Lola asked in a light tone her eyebrows raised upwards and her eyes brightened.
"You might have a little brother or sister" Lucas chuckled.
Lola gave her dad a hug, "How far along is she?"
"4 months give or take?" he said. She could feel his smile grow on her shoulders.
"Damn dad, you still got it" Lola laughed.
"I didn't even think about having other kids after you" Lucas chuckled.
"Is she gonna live with us?"
Lucas nodded.
Lola nodded and paused briefly just thinking about it all, she snickered to herself when she realised Shamika's baby would around the same age as her sibling.
"How long have you known?" Lola asked.
"Since she fund out" Lucas said. They heard Michael's signature knock at the door consisting of a simple beat.
