Post Campania arc.
Set after Ciel and Sebastian came home after the unfortunate sinking of the Campania.
Also, established relationship. The manor was rather quiet today, the halls were void of human presence, the kitchen was empty, so was the garden. Despite the size of Phantomhive manor, only 3 people occupied it as of the moment.
Ciel, Tanaka, and Sebastian.
The other four servants were sent out to live temporarily in the summer house of their master with Soma and Agni until the head of the servants have finally recovered.
Ciel wondered if he made the right choice in sending the others away, it now just crossed his mind that his butler may feel a little lonely without the constant fuss of Finny in the garden, Snake and his reptile friends walking around in the mansion, Mey-rin's clumsiness and Baldroy poor attempts at speeding up the cooking process because of his impatience. The young lord snorted, No. If those 4 were here Sebastian would never get the rest he needed, he'd be up and about cleaning up after them despite his condition and Ciel refused to torment the demon any longer.
It had been 4 days since the incident in Campania, and although a lot that had happened were a complete eye opener, more questions surfaced rather than answers. As the earl sat in the drawing room in a plush red chair, he stared out the window with an expression akin to forlorn. He couldn't stop the constant bubbling of worry in his chest. His lover alone in his room just resting, trying to recover from his master's clumsiness and lack of environment awareness.
Ciel tried hard not to think about the problem, how hard he tried not to blame himself for what happened but the harder he thought about it the more he couldn't deny the guilt slowly building inside him. Along with these is the anger he felt when he suddenly became aware of the mourning jewelry in his hand, the hardness of the chain and the sudden tug Ciel did made a tickling sound, the sound he hated so much."Damn the Undertaker"
Ciel thought, but that has been established way too many times in his head. And as the sun slowly sunk in the horizon, the room was filled with the soft shade of orange, the warmth slowly leaving the area and the ever present chill of the nightwind finally greeted him.
He didn't know how long he had been sitting in that chair for, probably for the whole day. He scoffed, he could have worked, he had papers to sign after all, but the worry took over him.He wanted to visit Sebastian, oh how he wanted to see how his lover was doing. Is he alright? Recovering well? Is he in pain still? All these questions could be answered if only Ciel wasn't so stubborn. The one thing that kept him from seeing his demon was the over flowing guilt he carried, he knew it was ridiculous, what's done is done and there was nothing he could do about it. Yet why does it still hurt? Why did he have this urge to constantly blame himself for his carelessness?
The room was finally enveloped in a soft shade of blue as the moon made it's way in the night sky, the ticking of the clock was repetative and somewhat relaxing as Ciel turned to look at the time.
7:30
Tanaka would be coming soon to tuck him in bed. And not a moment too soon did the former head of the servants did come in to take Ciel away from the drawing room to his bed chambers. Even in the warm bath, Ciel felt lost and distracted, barely registering how he got washed, dried, dressed and as if floating in the waters of time, Tanaka was bidding him goodnight and leaving the room.
It had gone silent then. And Ciel hated it. It was dark in the room, with no sound to distract him, he could hear his own blood pumping in his veins, a sound so loud in his ears it was almost deafening, he could hear the distant mocking laughter of Undertaker, he could even hear the dead's growls and feel the tendrils of darkness reach out to him.
