"Well Freddie we're finally back. Remember this place" I asked my 13 year old grown up son while driving into New York.
"Yeah it's crazy. I don't remember everything but I remember a secret you told me" Freddie says looking curiously at me.
"Which one? We tell each other loads" I asked with a laugh slightly.
"About you loving Regina. Mum are you finally going to tell her" Freddie asked as he looked at me like I'm crazy.
"Freddie I was 24 when I told you that. Me and Regina were young and stupid. I can't just turn up 7 years later and tell her I love her" I replied with a laugh at him.
"Why not? You may have been young back then but"
"Been young? Oi I'm still young" I say cutting in.
"You wish" Freddie says as he started laughing.
"I'm only 31" I say glaring across at him.
"As I was saying. You may have been youngER back then but you know you still love her" he says with a sigh at me.
"Your 13 years old. Shut up" I say looking down at the guy who just told me what I won't admit to myself.
"You know I'm right. Anyway how much longer" Freddie asked as he looked out the window.
"Not long. We're going to stop off and get coffee first" I say as I parked the car outside the coffee shop.
"I recognise this place. It's crazy I was 6 when we left and I remember" he says looking at it curiously.
"Well you spent so much time here. Regina brought you to this coffee place as much as she could" I say laughing at the good memories.
I got out the car and looked at the building. Freddie came and stood next to me. He's 13 and starting to get his growth spurt. He's nearly taller than me already. I went into the coffee shop and saw a girl sat in a booth reading the paper. Fuck sake! It's Lola.
"Mum look" Freddie says pointing at her.
"I know. Just be quiet. We will take it to go" I say walking to the counter with him.
"Hey what can I... Emma? Is that you" the writer asked with a smile.
"Hey Jake. Can I get a black coffee with one sugar and Freddie you want anything" I asked looking down at my son.
"Yeah. Can I have a hot chocolate" he asked looking at the waiter.
"Coming up. So em how long you back" Jake asked while he started making our drinks.
"I'm moving back. We're living back in my house since I never sold it" I replied smiling at my old friends.
"That's great. If you come back at 4 then Regina will be here" he says smirking up at me.
"Really? How do you know"
"She is every day at 4 to get her coffee after work. At the weekends it's 11. Aubrey is with her as well"
"I'll be back then. Also is Lola looking at me" I asked leaning forward to ask him quietly now.
"No your lucky... ow wait. Now she is" he replied looking over my shoulder.
"Shit" I sighed looking down.
"Well I don't think she knows it's you. Here's your drinks so quick run" Jake says placing two to-go cups in front of me.
"Thanks Jake. I'll see you later" I say as I took the drinks.
"Laters em. Good to see you" he says as he waved me goodbye.
