'Mom?'
There was a lot of noise on the background. 'Mom?' I pushed open the door of the gear room. 'Yeah?' She sounded confused. 'You called me, what's up?' I asked. 'Oh... I—' she cut herself off again. 'What's that noise on the background?' I asked. There was a long silence, like she forgot about me. 'Mom?' I asked again. 'Sorry,' she apologized. Sunstreaker walked in, probably to check up on me. 'You're okay?' I asked. 'Yes, I feel fine, just busy,' she said, she still sounded confused. 'Shall I call you back later?' I asked. 'Don't worry so much about me, Skylla,' she sighed. I rolled my eyes. 'I'll call you when my duty is over,' I said. 'Sure.' She disconnected the call. 'She's okay?'
I nodded. 'Of course she is, just busy.' I passed him. 'You know you can talk to me, right?' He asked. 'Yeah, because that helps. Last time I talked to you, you completely ignored what I told you. You didn't care so... why should I try it again? What are you going to make me do next? Jump off a building?' I snapped. He sighed and ran his hand through his hair. 'I am just trying to help here.' I rolled my eyes. 'Perhaps you should stick to your old habits. You kill people, you don't help them, now if you excuse me.' I pushed him aside.
'Where are you going?'
'Catching up with someone,' I said. 'You're on duty,' he snapped back. 'You're not my boss.' I slammed the door shut and marched over to the hanger. I spotted Optimus, he was just about to leave for his patrol. I barely saw him nowadays and I really needed to talk to him. I sprinted down the stairs and jumped in front of his alt-mode. He almost hit me, just a few inches space was left between us. The tall mech transformed. 'Skylla, don't ever do that again.' He pointed at me and gave me that strict look. 'Please, I am trying to talk to you for days. I need to talk... no one wants to listen. I am really sorry, but please, let me join on your patrol. Some steam emerged from his vents. 'Alright.'He transformed and I hopped in,— buckling up. 'What is you want to talk about?' He asked as he drove off and his holoform appeared. 'I can't do this with Sunstreaker. Lennox doesn't want to hear me and I don't even know how I ended up in this situation in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I am really honored that he wants to train me but I can't do it. I just can't do it mentally. One, I don't want to get attached to him because I am going to lose him one day and secondly, I just want to be a soldier. Ironhide was about to train me to be a sniper. I talked to Sunstreaker, I rejected his offer, I even told him why—'
'Calm down, I can't hear you when you're talking so fast. Take a deep breath,' he said. I exhaled slowly. 'I can't do it. I don't want to go out there in the front...' I looked at him and blinked the tears from my eyes. 'He doesn't want to listen...' I swallowed the lump and looked away. 'My mom isn't doing great either. She needs help, but she doesn't want it and we life so far apart.' Optimus glanced at me. 'I am sorry... I am now you're not interested, I am just overwhelmed and don't get me wrong, I don't want to be disrespectful in anyway but I can't do this. Optimus pulled over and cut off his engine. 'Skylla, look at me.'
I turned fully towards him. 'You need to calm yourself down, okay? Throwing yourself in front of my alt-mode and being so upset won't change anything. I am sure Sunstreaker didn't mean to upset you, I bet he has good intensions for once but honestly, you should talk to him,' he said. I shook my head, 'no one listens. He hushed me again. 'It's okay, just calm down,' he ordered. I wiped some tears off my face. 'What happened with your mom?' He asked. 'She called me previously and she was confused. Like she didn't really know to who she's talking and that happened before when she started taking drugs and alcohol. I offered her to come to Washington DC but she refused. One day, I come home and I'll find her dead on the floor. I talked to Ratchet about it, but there's not much he can do if she doesn't come to Washington DC. I don't want to bury another parent because she's all I've left.'
Optimus pulled me in a hug. He rubbed my back and listened to my cries. After a while, he made me look at him. 'Listen, I know you're pain is fresh and it's hard to lose half your family. I know how it feels,' he said. I wiped the tears off my face. 'I know this is not what you want to hear but Sunstreaker can help you. He never showed this behavior to anyone, not even his twin. He truly cares about you and he really wants to help you. He can be your support. Sunstreaker is amazing in a lot of things and he's one of the best front liner I've ever had. He always succeeds in what he does. You don't have to rush things, I am not going to sent you into the battlefield right away, okay?'
I nodded and embraced him. 'Thank you...'
He rubbed my back. 'I am really sorry about all this—' he cut me off. 'It's okay. It's hard, life is hard. You're young but tough and whatever happens with your mom, you'll pull through it.' I nodded and dried my cheeks. His words were calmly and I was glad to finally talk to someone who understands and doesn't give me a silent treatment or is fake like Victoria.
