After a minute of staring at Grace, the king finally spoke up. "What is this? Why is there a mermaid in my territory?"

Surge was the one who spoke up. he told his father about the tiger shark, the challenge, getting ganged up on, how Grace was the one who found him and nursed him back to health, then told about the life debt.

The king then looked back to Grace, his expression now changed to a slight smile. "well in that case, I welcome you. I would assume that you would like to continue watching over my son while he is still healing."

Grace just gave a small nod of her head, in agreement.

"Very well" the king said, "you can fallow the guards to his room."

As the guards were working together to get Surge up to his room, Grace trailed behind them. Once in his room, Grace helped the guards get Surge settled in. then the guards left the room, leave the prince and the mermaid alone.

"Well you was awfully quiet down there, come to think of it, I not heard a word from you since the guards showed up." Surge says looking at Grace.

"I was just a little nervous" Grace responded.

"Hmm, I would say more then a little" Surge laughed, "yet you got no problem talking to me"

"Well a nurse has to talk to her patent" Grace giggles. Also trying to avoid bruising Surges ego by pointing out the obvious.

Surge could tell she was trying to spare his ego, so he didn't push father on the subject.

Grace noticed a small shiny blue and green stone sitting next to the window. She looked over at Surge saying, "that's a pretty stone there." pointing to it.

Surge turned away from her saying,  "it was my mothers."

Seeing his reaction, Grace knew she just struck a cord with him. She decided it might be best not to inquire anymore about it, but then she heard Surge give a deep sigh.

"Her name was Coral. She always told me and my brother Dray, that she found that stone the day she and father met. She used to tell us it was lucky. That I up until four years ago. She was killed. A group of scouting mermen found her close to the border, and killed her. All she was doing was looking at some of the wild corals and flowers, much like you when you was collecting shells. I saw your pile of shells, we left at the ship."

Grace was taken aback, both at the fact he just told her all of that freely, and that it was her own kind that killed the late queen.
