Chapter 14-Head space

It's been four whole days since what happened my mom and step dad were worried for me and my safety so they sent me to my grandmas and grandpas to stay just outside of maple. I've been mostly helping out around the house helps me keep things out my mind me and my grandfather stood outside digging in patches and turning dirt into fresh soil, He had many hobbies yard work seemed to be his favorite I pushed my shovel down into the grown and stomped on the back peddle to get deeper into it " You know.. I could be out here all day you can go inside and do whatever teenagers do." He let out nearly out of breath as he sipped from his water bottle,
" I don't mind really you need the help anyway." I shoveled more the blazing sun hanging Over us. "So you're calling me old now?" He chuckled and picked back up his shovel,

"No I'm not I'm just saying you should be the one watching Tv." I turned to him tossing the dirt into a slightly big pile.

"You know we use to get people from bloodlust into these parts some use to move out and move here but it's been quiet over there haven't seen anything in a while." He stared out in the distance like he spotted something.

"What kind of name is bloodlust anyway?" I struck into the dirt again this time wiping sweat off my forehead.

"It use to be called something else but it has the most crime rate so folks just started calling it bloodlust here it's a lot safer only criminals here are people that work at the bank" he laughed at his own joke as he opened his bottle and drank from it.

I stood silent a bit and kept shoveling "No place is really safe you know Im surprised there's no copy cat hero's over here." I looked back at him.

"Copy cats? Like that uhh Killer man right?" He stood and turned at me.

I laughed "yeah killer X not man grandpa."

"He's got his hands full a little too much on his plate but here the schools are better you know a lot more positive people. Friendly everyone here is very friendly you walk on the side walk and you got strangers greeting you..better for someone who's surrounded by trouble.."

"I'm not dumb I know what you're trying to do grandpa.." I struck the dirt again and lifted it into a pile.

"Jovonni Listen .. me your grandmother and your uncle were thinking you stay here with us you know? It's safer here ...better then that place you call a home. I'll talk to your mom she won't mind I'm sure.." he sat under a tree drinking the last remaining of his water, I took a moment of silence as I stood there shovel in hand frozen. "I can't I got stuff to do back at home friends..school .. things I need to do you know?" I kept shoveling.

"Well you know we got room here when you want.." He crunched up his bottle and put it in a baggy.

"I'm heading home tomorrow grandpa I'm ready.."

"Now Jio I don't belive that's the best your mom said you stay for a couple weeks it's only been 4 days." He sat up looking at me.

"I know but I'm ready now..I need to get back to maple.. I don't want to miss his funeral tomorrow.. and I don't like being out of school." I gave a nod and just like that I was back my grandpa dropped me off back at my moms the very next day, After a long convincing conversation with my mom she gave up and decided to let me stay. Going to the funeral was a lot more difficult than expected of course they gave Mel a closed casket his mom gave a speech and just like that they buried him I stood there next to the freshly made grave staring at his stone. I put my hands in my pockets as I stood there people began leaving Mrs. Rivires rested some flowers she gave me a faint smile hugging me and then walking away.

"Things-..things are only gonna get worst from here bro.. Kat..well she's losing her mind..your mom..I'm ashamed to look her in the eyes ...I know deep down inside someone knows..they're coming for me maybe Kat ..I'm scared..I don't know what to do. This..this is my fault I should never let you join... you wanted it I should of followed my gut and tried everything to keep you from joining.. I'm so sorry..so so sorry..I would give my place for yours ..it should of been me." I knelt and rested my head on the stone as light rain began soaking into my suit. Soon I went home with my mom we went inside and I laid my head down and drifted to sleep. I opened my eyes to my mom waking me up for school "Jovonni wake up.. come on." She said still brushing her teeth getting ready for work, I sat up yawning softly.
"Hey you know you don't have to go to school today right..." she said looking at me I nodded "I need to go to school I'll be fine." I sat there as she stared back at me unsure she knew I was lying through my teeth. "Come on I'll be FINE I need to get ready." I got up picked out some clothes and got ready I walked to school. Once I got there everything was.. weird it was quiet for starters and people started coming over to me and saying sorry they found out about Mel, most were some I knew and there were some I don't even remember talking too.
