When I reached the huge house I was panting, completely out of breathe. I ran up the front steps and pounded on the door. It was the early morning already and I preyed that if it were a true emergency Lucian would have called an ambulance.
"Thank god!" Lucian says as he opened the door and I run right in.
"Where's Violet is she okay?" I say running around the house.
"She's in the nursery!" He says panicking. I ran to the nursery to see Violet crying softly in her crib. I inspect her but see no injury.
"There's this smell coming from her!" Lucian says pacing around the room. Is this boy serious?
"She needs her diaper changed you idiot." I say and grab Violet. I placed her on the changing table and motioned for Lucian to come over.
"You're telling me you have never changed a diaper?" I ask him.
"No why would I?" He says.
"Well I'm going to teach you." I tell him and before he can protest I hand him a package of wipes.
"First you place a fresh diaper under her and then removed the dirty one." I tell him.
"You don't expect me to actually do this do you?" He asks in disbelief.
"I don't know did you ruin my date because you don't know how to do a simple task?" I ask him harshly and he snickers.
"For your information not everyone knows how to change a diaper." He says and I roll my eyes.
"Would you just come here?" I groaned.
"Um no 1 she smells and 2 you're soaking wet and dripping everywhere." He points out. Crap I forgot I just ran across the city in the pouring rain for a dirty diaper.
"Lucian please stop being so immature." I said. That got his attention.
"Me? Immature? No. Hand me a diaper." He says and I grinned.
"Okay so put the clean diaper under her and then take off the old one and wrap it up." I told him. He did as I instructed.
"What the actual hell?" He said and I laugh at his face as it twists in disgust.
"Okay now throw that in the trash and use the wipes." I tell him.
"Babies are so high maintenance." He said letting out a breathe.
I grabbed a fresh onesie to change Violet into and picked her up.
"Now was that so hard?" I ask and he nodded quickly.
I rock Violet in my arms for a while and place her into her crib. She's a good baby. Lucian and I both walk out of the room and plop on the couch in the living room.
"So how was your date with lover boy?" He asks me. Not that he actually cares.
"It was great until you had your 'emergency'" I say.
"That kid is bad news, I'm telling you." He says.
"He isn't, He's sweet and a gentlemen and" he stopped me.
"I got it." He says and stretched out on the couch putting his head on my lap. I'm too tired to protest and just sit there.
Before I know it I'm drifting off to sleep cuddled up to Lucian Gonzo, this must be an alternate universe. I ignore my phone buzzing because I know that it's Jay and not my mom.
When I wake up the sun is just rising and Lucian is gone. I quietly make my way to Violet's nursery and see Lucian struggling to change her diaper. He looks like he is contemplating what the do next but I let him figure it out. He sightly smiles at her and for a minute I think to myself, maybe she's growing on him. When my siblings were born I was so excited, I thought they would fix everything and when they were taken away I didn't know what to do with myself. Maybe that's why I want Lucian to connect with her, I don't want him to take her for granted.
"Stop staring its creepy" Lucian snaps as he puts Violet in her crib.
"Sorry, I'm gonna go home now." I tell him as I yawn and turn to leave.
"Wait!" He says.
"What if I need help?" He pleads.
"Where's your mom?" I ask and he shrugs his shoulders.
"How should I know?" He scoffs, I get the message.
"Look just call me if you need me, I have to go home and see my mom." I tell him.
"And you're going to walk back to Brooklyn?" He questions me, smirking of course. I let out a huff.
"Looks like you need a ride, where's the car seat?" He asks and I point to the closet.
I put Violet in the car seat carefully not to wake up and put my shoes on. As we walk to car I can feel the tiredness sink in.
Lucian speeds off as I try not to fall asleep again. It's hard to believe I ran across the city last night but hey I guess that's adrenaline.
The car stops.
Lucian looks around.
His eyes narrow as he looks out the windows.
"Get out of the car." He tells me. I don't move.
"What?" I ask, maybe I misheard him. We sit parked at the border of the east side.
"Get out of the car now!" He orders. What an asshole. I look at him but when I see that he's serious I get out and close the door, but not before flipping him off.
He speeds off and I walk back to the apartment. How the hell could he be so rude? But that's when I here someone call my name, an angry someone.
Jay.
