I sat on the couch for what seemed like hours. The sun was down but the lights of the city kept me awake, also my fear.
I felt physically and mentally exhausted but I knew I would never fall asleep. I didn't trust Jay and I sure as hell didn't trust anyone associated with him.
Just as I felt my eyes give in to my tiredness I was awoken by 5 boys stumbling him, one of them had a hand wrapped in gauze.
"What are you doing up its 4 in the morning?" One of them asked. Jay had told me their names but not what name belonged to who. The boy has longer black hair that was tucked behind one ear, he looked to be maybe 20.
"Whatever we have to be up in 4 hours so go to bed." Jay said before I could give an answer. Who was he my father? I'm almost 18 and here I am letting a punk- asshole tell me what to do.
They all go down the hallway and into what I'm assuming are their bedrooms and the apartment is still and for one moment I feel as if I can breathe.
I may be able to breathe but I surely couldn't sleep.

I closed my eyes and I'm not sure if I fell asleep but someone was talking to me.
"Get up Athena." It was Jay. I almost forgot that I was stuck here, I couldn't help but feel stupid for leaving the comfort of Lucian's home. I mean I know I wasn't wanted there or anywhere but at least I was trapped there.
"Seriously get up." Jay said as he grabbed my arm which made me stand up abruptly. The other guys were all in the small kitchen already dressed. Jay still had a tight grip on me as he guided me to a bathroom. He handed me my toiletries and shut the door as he left.
I looked in the mirror and saw tear stains on my cheeks. I splashed cold water on my face and tried to detangle my hair. I braided it to the side and brushed my teeth. I let out a long breathe as I went back to the couch which is where my duffle bag was sitting. The boys were all eating cereal in various place in the apartment and I felt all of their eyes on me but none of them spoke. I quickly grabbed jeans and a knitted sweater before rushing into the bathroom and changing.
I stuffed the clothes I slept in in my duffle bag and grabbed my backpack. I sat on the couch as the boys all got themselves put together. They didn't offer me breakfast and surely I wasn't about to ask. I ignore the dryness of my throat and the throbbing hunger pains that coursed my body as I put my shoes on.
Jay's walked up to me and I panicked as he reached for my neck. He yanked my necklace off of my neck. My hands traveled to my now bare neck.
"Hey." I exclaimed as I attempted to snatch it from his hands. He watched it dangle from his fingers and my breathing quickened.
"You can have it just don't wear it." He ordered me as he placed it gently in my hands. I quickly stuffed it into my front pocket wanting it to be close to me.
"Here." He said as he handed me another necklace. It was gold and had what looked like a distorted cross on it.
"I'm allergic to gold." I told him, it wasn't a lie but I also didn't want to be associated with his gang.
The gold however would literally burn my skin, my jewelry was all silver for a reason. It was rare, but it was true I'm allergic to gold.
"You don't honestly expect me to believe that do you?" He asked as he walked behind me. It wasn't until then that I realized he had a similar one hanging from his neck. So did the rest of the boys. Oh lord, this must be like my officiating trademark.
Jay put the necklace around my neck and clasped it in the back. I didn't say anything but I could feel my neck begin to itch. I was indeed allergic to gold. The boys walked towards the door and I followed. They talked among themselves as Jay kept a tight grip of my shoulder, I kept my head down as we walked to school.
It was almost Halloween and the weather was bitter and windy. The sun was just beginning to rise and there was mist in the air. I wish I could enjoy this weather, cuddled up reading a book but no. I was trying to focus on the side walk but my neck was burning. I tried to move the cross like charm against my sweater so it wouldn't be on my skin but it was no use. Jay noticed my agitation but only made his grip tighter. We walked onto campus and my eyes searched for Lucian's car. For a reason unknown to me it gave me comfort to see it sitting in its usual spot. Jay wouldn't let me talk to him for sure but I had to tell Lucian that I was quitting. Quitting, something I definitely didn't want to do but I feared what Jay would do if I fought against hims
We walked into the building and I could feel everyone's stares. I must seem like a real mystery to everyone at school. I mean I did beat the shit out of Jay yesterday and now I'm walking in with him looking like part of his crew. As I made my way to my locker, with Jay in my hip of course my eyes locked with very familiar ones, Lucian's.
He walked over to me and was about to say something but his expression stopped when he looked at my chest. His eyes were cold but also gazed in disbelief.
"What the hell?" He asked Jay. And Jay looked at what Lucian was so fixated on.
"Shit, you were serious." Jay said as he ran his hand through his hair.
I knew what they were looking at because I could feel it.
The cross had been burnt into my skin.
