15. A message

Lucian's p.o.v

I didn't answer my phone, I couldn't. I couldn't even begin to understand what was going on right now.

"Can I have these papers?" I asked Peter.

"Be my guest." He told me and shrugged.

"Thank you, I have to leave." I told him and gathered the papers. I got into my car and sped to my house.

I ignored my mom's greeting and went straight to my room. I had to figure all of this out. I laid the papers out on my desk and stared at them. Something must have happened to her. Why else would she fake her own death?

I grabbed my now cracked phone and searched for an Antionette Mercier on Instagram and nothing comes up, nothing under Athena either. No social media, no school records. She was being hid away but from what? Nobody knows who her father is maybe it has something to do with him. I'm sure he was in the Balles Bleaus. I search some articles on the gang.

This article was from 2004. That would make Athena three years old. I try to do the math in my head, if Athena was born in 2001 that would make her mom only 16 when she was born. Athena took her mother's maiden name not her adopted fathers. I try to grasp everything that's going on but feel rage.

I don't know why Athena was lying but I needed to find out. For now I am going to keep my cool and pretend I don't know anything.

My phone rang again, this time I didn't recognize the number.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Is this Lucian?" A woman asked me.

"Who is asking?" I replied.

"This is Athena's mother." She told me.

"Can I help you?" I asked her, I didn't have time for this.

"I wanted you to give Athena a message for me." She asked me.

"I guess so, yeah." I reply confused.

"Tell her that I am sorry and that what I am doing is best for the both of us." She tells.

"I don't understand." I say and the line goes dead. Whatever is about to happen can't be good so I rush back to the hospital.

"Where do you think you're going?" My mom asks me.

"Mom I have to go it's Athena." I tell her and she opens her mouth to speak but I stop her.

"I'll explain later." I say and head out the door. I speed through the lanes and when I finally reach the hospital I see Athena's mom standing in the front.

I quickly hop out of my car and run towards a her.

"What are you doing here?" She asks me.

"I'm here to make sure Athena is okay unlike you." I snap at her as I try to push through the door.

"See security this is what I was taking about, he's obsessed." She tells the two man by her side, I hadn't realized them before. They both wore all black with white letters on their backs which read "security". For Gods sake, security?

"Look can you just make sure he doesn't come in, I have some business to take care of." She says and leaves, the men block the entrance.

"Just let me in would ya?" I plead with them. It seems like I am the only one who cares about Athena right now and I have to see if she's okay.

"I need to see someone it's urgent!" I say and try and push through them.

"That lady told us about the things you have done don't make us call the police." The man growled at me.

"Call them but I am going in!" I shout and try and dodge them again but they grab me by the shirt and push me away.

"You won't let me in? Fine." I shout and I watched him go back into their protective stance. This is such bullshit I'm the only one trying to help. Think Lucian...

I have to do it.

I pull out my switchblade.

I see the security guards eye's open wide and then narrow. They don't say a word but slowly approach me. The smaller one finally says something.

"Put the knife down." He says nervously but I don't have it for them.

Shit shit shit I can't believe I'm doing this.

I jab the knife into my hand.

God I am such a dumbass.
