Athena

What the hell is going on? I ask myself and groan. I fight to open my eyes and see that I'm in a hospital room. I have three I.Vs hooked into me and gauze wrapped around my torso. I didn't really remember what had happened. I felt an aching in my side and head.
"You're awake." Lucian said from beside me with Violet still in her baby carrier. I hadn't realized he was sitting in a chair beside me.
"What happened?" I asked him.
"You got an infection from your injury." He told me. I looked at his face, he looked different. He had dark circles under his eyes and his hair was tossed and greasy.
"Why are you here?" I asked him and sat up, still in pain.
"Because I had to take your clumsy ass to the hospital. I wanted to see if you were okay." He said harshly. Yayyy the normal Lucian is back. (note the sarcasm)
"Well thanks but..." I trailed off and began taking the I.Vs out of my arms. I winced everytime I pulled one out.
"What the hell are you doing?" Lucian yelled. I stood up and began to limp to the door.
"I don't have health insurance, every minute spent here is another bill." I told him and shrugged my shoulders.
"That's what you're worried about?" Lucian asked me, pushing me backwards with his hands.
"Unlike you not everyone can afford a stupid mistake like this." I told him and he shook his head.
"About that, the hospital couldn't find a person under the name "Athena" care to explain?" He told me and crossed his arms over his chest. I couldn't breathe, my mouth just hung open.
"I told you, I don't have any insurance." I quickly told him and went to turn around. It was then that I realized I was wearing a hospital gown, I couldn't walk home in this.
"Yeah no Athena in Quebec either." he said and I could feel the lump in my throat.
"I go by my middle name." I told him and attempted to walk out the door.
"I did some digging, Antoinette." He called me Antoinette. This boy was going to get it. I turned around and pushed him as hard as I could.
"Back the hell off!" I shouted at him and walked down the long hallway, not exactly knowing where I was going. I found a nurses station and demanded for a discharge.
"I'm sorry but because of your current condition you will need to stay until you are cleared." The nurse told me.
"I'm not dying for Pete's sake!" I said and paced around the room. I all of a sudden felt a wave of nausea go through my body and I fell limp to the floor.
"Would you stop being so stubborn." I could hear Lucian say as he lifted me up.
"I'm taking you back to your room." He insists.
"I told you I can't afford any of this." I said fighting back tears.
"Stop worrying about that okay? You're really sick." He told me and I shook my head. I felt so exhausted.
"Is my mom coming?" I asked as he set me down on the hospital bed. He didn't say anything, but he did shift uncontrollably.
"Did they at least call her?" I asked.
"She said she was busy." He said and cleared his throat.
"Where's Violet?" I asked.
"My mom came and got her." He told me sitting down on the end. I let out a long breathe of air.
"I know you're tired but I need to know who you really are Athena." Lucian said.
"Do you?" I ask nervously.
"Why are you lying about you're identity?" He asked.
"We all have secrets why is this such a big deal?" I say harshly.
"Are you in trouble or something?" He asks me. If only he knew.
"I'm fine, I just don't like my name!" I told him.
"I have a great bullshit detector, I can help you." He says, I can tell he's trying to be nice.
"You're in a gang and that's the last thing I need right now." I tell him.
"Barely." He states.
"What do you mean?" I ask him.
"We all have secrets." He says, quoting me. What a smart ass.
"But for real? I thought you were the leader or something." I tell him crossing my arms over my chest.
"I'm supposed to be but I'm kind of the black sheep now." He tells me and looks off.
"I know how that feels." I tell him honestly.
"I'm sure you do." He says sarcastically.
"You don't like your stupid name and all of a sudden you're some secretive rebel?" He says mockingly.
I smile tightly.
"You should leave." I tell him.
"My pleasure." He said and began to walk to the door when I noticed something in his pocket. My hands shot to my neck to search for my necklace. He had it.
"Why do you have my necklace?" I asked frantically.
"Oh you mean this?" He asked as he held it out in front of me.
"I saved it, when you unconscious it fell from your neck." He said and tossed it to me.
"Thank you." I said and quickly put it on.
"I'm wondering though, where did you get it?" He asked suspiciously.
"It was a gift." I told him. This couldn't get any worse.
"It's the stone of the Balles Bleaus gang." He told me smirking. Shit shit shit.
"I found it at an antique shop." I said quickly. I could feel my nails begin to dig into my palms.
"Hmm well be careful with it, it's worth a lot of money." He told me and shut the door.
I know it's worth a lot of money asshole we used to have a lot of money. This stone was given to the first born of every family in the Balles Bleaus gang. I fought for this stone. I couldn't lose it. It's the only reminder of my old life that I have. I prayed to god that he believed me and wouldn't do anymore digging. It's none of his concern and I have no clue what kind of information he could find. I would lose my job for sure and I needed the money, desperately.
"Athena?" I hear my name as a doctor stood in the door way.
"That's me." I said with a tight grin.
Was this me though? I hate lying but I'm willing to if it means I don't have to revisit my past, I just hope Lucian can accept that.
