Lucian's p.o.v

I watched as Athena slept on the couch. I noticed something strange, her face didn't fall. It stayed in perfect condition she looked as if she could wake any moment. Her hair was still wet and stuck to her face and shoulders. My train of thought was interrupted by Violet crying softly. I rushed to the nursery to make sure she didn't wake Athena up. She needed her diaper changed...again. I thought for a moment and decided to man up and do it. It took a while and a lot of concentration but I managed. I think I even smiled at her. I could feel a presence and immediately wiped the smile off my face.

"Stop staring it's creepy." I snapped at Athen and she jumped a little.

Sorry, I'm gonna go home now." She tells me and I slightly panic.

"Wait!" I call out as she turns to leave.

"What if I need help?" I ask, now I just sound pathetic. Turn all this emotion off.

"Where's your mom?" She asks and I shrug my shoulders, I genuinely don't know.

"How should I know?" I scoff.

"Look just call me if you need me, I have to go home and see my mom." She tells me.

"And you're going to walk back to Brooklyn?" I question her, smirking she can't say no to a ride.

"Looks like you need a ride, where's the car seat?" I ask her and she rolls her eyes and walks down the hall, I follow.

As we get in the car I can tell Athena is trying not to fall asleep. We drive in silence as I approach her neighborhood. Shit, how could I forget? I look around and see Jay staring at us and he begins to approach. I can feel my anger begin to boil.

"Get out of the car now!" I order Athena and she looks at me totally confused.

"What?" She asks.

"Get out, now!" I repeat myself. This time she obeys.

I felt bad for snapping at Athena but I panicked. Jay saw me about to cross the boarder and I couldn't let that happen. I saw the hurt in her eyes as she slammed the door behind her. I sped off and Violet began to cry.

"Seriously?" I groaned as Violet began to cry even harder. Ever since she was born dad has been working more and mom has kind of disappeared. Violet was supposed to hold them together after everything that happened but it's only split them apart. I mean I'm not blaming her, she's a baby.

"We're almost there okay?" I tried calming her down like Athena would. This is bullshit it isn't working.

"You can't understand me what am I doing?" I say out loud and suddenly Athena's words pop into my mind. "Stop being such an ass, she's a baby." She would say. God why am I thinking about her? She's my little sisters babysitter and annoying and perfect at everything.

I pulled into the garage and took Violet out of the car. She smelled, lord please no.

"Mom!" I call but no one replies. I climb the stairs and see she's left a note on the door.

"Be back at 5" it read.

I brought Violet to her stupid pink nursery and tried to remember what Athena has told me and showed me. I almost called her but someone managed to figure it out. I wondered how she knew so much about babies and kids. She seemed to live with just her mom, no siblings. Lucian, get her off your mind!

Violet apparently needs food now and a nap and honestly same. So I give her a bottle and put her in her crib. I plop on the couch and think about life. My life was so different only a year ago. Last year I attended all the meetings, met all the leaders and did the deals and look at me now, changing diapers and making bottles. Hell, Violet isn't even my kid. I can't understand how my parents can care so little about me and how they threw everything away. Now I'm stuck in this big house practically alone. My house arrest has been up for months but here I am. Somehow my mind drifts back to Athena. I barely knew her and I couldn't read her. I know she's from Quebec but that's basically it. I fall asleep thinking about her curly hair and her bright eyes.

My mom finally comes home but she avoids me like usual. She doesn't seem to bond with Violet either.

As the hours pass Athena still doesn't show up. I pray to god that it wasn't about how I acted earlier. I try calling her and so does my mom. Something has to be wrong if she isn't calling my mom back. Jay is bad news but would be hurt her? I need to get her off my mind. I call my friends and see what they're doing and what's happening. I leave and my friend Alec picks me up. We head over to his house where the rest of the gang is, those who go to our school that is. The conversations are always the same and everything we do is the same. We drink, we smoke and we don't care we'll actually they drink and smoke, I'm not supposed to with the meds I'm on. That's beside the point, I'm still wondering and worrying about Athena.

"Bro what's up with you?" Alex asks and I shake my head.

"Tired I guess" I tell him and he nods. Everyone talks around me and soon it's the early morning.

My phone rings.

It's my mom.

"I have work today you need to come home and watch Violet." She tells me.

"Are you freaking serious?" I ask.

"Get home now Lucian!" She yells into the phone.

As Alex drives me home I pray that Athena magically shows up so I can chill in my room and be left alone but when I get there my mom puts Violet in my arms and Athena is no one in sight. It's probably 7 in the morning and I haven't slept in days.  Just as I'm dozing off the sleep and so is Violet my phone rings again.

It's Athena.

Be cool don't care too much.

"ATHENA WHERE ARE YOU IVE TRIED TO CALL YOU 12 TIME MY MOM HAD TO LEAVE IM STUCK WITH VIOLET!" I rush out.  Well I blew the whole "don't care too much" thing.

She doesn't say anything all I hear is a cry of pain.
