Miia wasn't that shocked when she and Jim caught up with Harvey that he was already drinking. And she wasn't that surprised when he went to Fish Mooney but it did give them a small lead. A guy tried to sell some antique item. The item...a four strand pearl necklace with gold settings, one strand broken. Aka: Martha Wayne's pearl necklace.
That led them to Mario Pepper. The guy had a long history of drug dealing, robbery, assault, rape, and extortion. It's not a good lead but it's the only one they have. Jim knocked on Mario's apartment door. A little girl with mattered red hair opened the door. She stared at them while half of her body hid behind the door. Jim knelt down and looked at the girl.
"Hi," he greeted. "What's your name?"
"Ivy," the girl answered.
"Ivy, is daddy home?"
Miia noticed the fearful look in Ivy's eyes. "You don't wanna talk to daddy."
Miia knelt next to Jim while looking at her. "Why's that, Ivy?" she asked.
Ivy looked around the door. She leaned closer to the Gordon's as if she were telling a secret. "He's mean."
"Hey, who is it?" Mario Pepper practically yelled from the other side of the room. Ivy's head turned so fast it might have given her whiplash. She ran out of the way before Mario Pepper opened the door. He tried to pull off the tough guy persona but Miia knew this guy is all talk.
"Mario Pepper, we need to talk," Jim said.
The guy kept chewing whatever he was chewing. "I've done nothing."
Miia crossed her arms. "Never said you did. So this shouldn't be a problem." Mario pursed his lips. "There isn't a problem, is there?"
Mario shook his head. "No." He opened his door wide. "Come in."
Jim gave Miia a look that told her to let him do all the talking. She rolled her eyes but agreed. She sat next to Ivy while Jim went towards the table, Harvey not that far from them. Actually, he was standing next to Jim. Mario grabbed a beer from the fridge before taking a seat in front of Jim.
"Where were you last Saturday around 9:30?" Jim asked.
"I was here at home with my family," Mario answered.
Mario's wife backed him up. "That's right. He was here." Miia heard the little quiver in her voice. Either she was lying or she's really scared of this man. She felt someone move her hair. She glanced at Ivy, who placed a small flower in it. She smiled at the girl before she grabbed a flower from her hand and reciprocating the action.
"A pearl necklace sound familiar?" Harvey asked.
"No," Mario answered.
"Then I guess you don't mind we, uh, take a look around the place." Harvey motioned to Miia to start looking. She got up from her spot and started to look around.
"You need a warrant."
Miia looked through one of the drawers. "You're a felon on parole," she pointed out. She closed it when she couldn't find anything and smirked at the men. "All we need is reasonable cause."
Mario slowly nodded. Then he jumped up and pushed the table back before he tried to run. He pushed Miia so he could climb out the window and up the fire escape. Miia got up and started following after him with Jim behind her. They went up to the roof. Mario jumped over the small ledge and took out his gun. He started to fire at the siblings. Jim grabbed his sister and took cover before one of the bullets could hit them. Mario kept shooting at them as he ran towards the edge of the building. Jim patted Miia's knee when it was clear. They took their guns out before the jumped over the small ledge.
