“The doctor said he’s okay.” Johnny says as we were walking out. Steven was already in the car and Sam followed his lead. Then Johnny grabbed my arm. And I was forced to face him. “Diane, are you sure about this?”
I sighed and nodded. “Yes. I have to, Johnny.”
“He wanted to find you all this time, D. Are you ready to just…disappoint him?”
I shook my head and I felt the heat burning in my chest. I shrugged to break me from his hold. “I’m getting married in two weeks, Jonathan. I was sure when I said yes to my fiancée. I’m marrying Steven, Johnny. And nothing could change that.” I began to make my way to the hospital entrance when his words caught me off.
“Can’t you give him a chance, Diane? After thirteen years, you’re just gonna walk away?”
I faced him, voluntarily this time. “It didn’t work out. You know that. Stupid letters came and went and we never found them—”
“He found it, Diane.”
The flame inside kept on burning brighter. And I just…can’t breathe anymore. I was dumbfounded.
