I really feel bad.
I don’t have the guts to tell him. Maybe it’s not even real. Maybe he doesn’t feel the same—
I can’t live with maybes anymore!
It’s like eight years ago all over again!
“What do you plan to do, then?” Sam asks me as we sat on the bench in Central park.
“Nothing,” I sighed. And she groaned. “What? It’s a game. I have to keep on playing.”
“I don’t know about that, Diane. Sometimes, when you keep on playing low, some other kid grabs the joystick and plays it better than you.”
“If that happens, then I have to let her.”
“That’s bullsh*t and you know it.”
“Oh come on, Sam! What would you have me do? Just go in and tell him that I might be having this feeling we’re really connected?” I complained, hearing enough of it.
