Running towards the edge of the forest, Vanessa stopped to look over the group of men who were hunting down the wolves. She carefully watched as Charlie looked over to Harry Clearwater. "You got something, Harry?" He asked, Vanessa hearing his heart beating faster as he looked down towards the ground and then up at Vanessa who smirked.
"Nope." He answered, Charlie turning around as Vanessa watched him shuffle his feet to get rid of the wolf paw print in the ground.
As Vanessa was leaning against the tree, she heard someone jump near a branch, the girl looking up to see a flash of red hair as her eyes widened. She followed after Victoria, only to be consumed by the woman who forcefully grabbed her throat and threw her down, causing the hunting party to look their way.
"You can't save your pathetic mate forever." She hissed at Vanessa, the woman grabbed her wrist and twisted it painfully while she tossed her body weight to throw Victoria towards a tree and growled lowly.
"You really need to stop being a bitch and get over your own mate." She growled and Victoria smirked when she heard footsteps heading their way.
"Maybe I can't get to Bella right now, but I can get to your other human friends." She threatened, running off only for Vanessa to try and get to Harry before Victoria could, and the woman was tackled to the ground by a russet colored wolf.
He growled at her, running off while she got up angrily. "Really, Jacob!" She yelled, getting up and helping the wolf chase after the red haired vampire.
And as Vanessa was just about to reach her, her body was about to fling on top of the woman, just as Jacob grabbed onto her jacket before she could dive into the water. She yelled out in frustration, looking to Jacob in anger. "You wouldn't let me go after her twice!" She yelled at him, Sam growling at her to back off as Paul whimpered in fear.
She looked to the pack with a confused face. "What?" She asked, looking down as her eyes widened. "Shit." She muttered, steam blowing off her body again as she took a deep breath and calmed down. She opened her eyes and looked to Jacob and looked to the cliffs edge, that's where she saw Bella jump and she gasped.
"Jacob, get to the jumping cliff!" She yelled at him, jumping into the water as she started swimming towards Bella's body. She was under the water, unconscious as Vanessa saw Jacob just jump into the water as well and she grabbed her body, pulling her out of the water.
She swam towards the shore and looked to Jacob in fear. "Is she alive?!" Jacob yelled, Vanessa listening to her heart.
"Her heart's not beating!" She yelled, pushing into her chest as Jacob places his hand over her cheek.
"Breathe! Breathe!" Jacob yelled, Vanessa placing her lips onto Bella's cool ones and blew air into her lungs. "Come on, Bella, breathe!" He yelled at her, Vanessa pulling away while pushing on her chest again.
She had tears in her eyes while Bella sputtered and water dripped from her mouth as her eyes opened. "Bella, can you hear me?" She asked, crying softly as she looked around, her vision slightly blurry.
"Vanessa? Jake?" She asked, the vampire sighing in relief as Jacob chuckled.
"Come here." He whispered, picking her up to allow her to sit up as he glared at her. "What the hell were you thinking? Huh?" He asked, Vanessa too shocked to say anything.
"I just wanted to see something." She told them.
"Get her home! I'm gonna go help out over at Harry's place." Sam yelled over at Jacob and Vanessa as the woman nods her head.
"What happened at Harry's?" Bella asked.
"Harry Clearwater had a heart attack. Charlie and my dad are over at his place with his family." Jacob told her while Vanessa frowned.
"Is he okay?" She asked.
"He's gone." Vanessa whispered sadly, knowing is was partially her fault.
"Come on. I'll get you something dry and drive you home." Jacob told her while Vanessa helped her up. They got her to the truck and Vanessa was leaning against Jacob's body, Bella placing her hands over the vents to warm herself up.
"One hundred and eight degrees over here." Vanessa whispered, Bella taking the invitation as she could feel the warmth of Jacob's body.
"God! My hands are freezing. It must be nice, never getting cold." She told him while Jacob smiled down at Vanessa who was staring over at Bella in concern.
"It's a wolf thing." Jacob told her.
"It's not. It's a Jacob thing. You're just warm. You're like your own sun." She told him, Jacob pulling into her drive way as Bella pulled away slightly.
"This is better, now that you know about me." He told her, and frowned slightly.
"But..." she muttered.
"You saw what happened to Emily." He told her, Vanessa sighing while looking to Bella.
"Sam got angry at her. Lost it for a split second. It was an accident and Emily was standing too close. He'll never be able to take that back." She told Bella, grabbing her hand.
"What if I got mad at you?" Jacob asked while he looked away and sighed. "Sometimes, I feel like I'm gonna disappear." He told them as Bella looked between the two.
"Okay, not that you need me, so I'll be inside when you two are done." She told them, Vanessa keeping her eyes on Jacob and frowned.
"Jacob, you're not going to disappear because I'm right here. Every step of the way and I- -" she paused, looking into his eyes while she felt a strong urge to kiss him. She got close while she stopped, her heart shattering at the mere thought of Edward and she pulled away slightly. "I'm your best friend." She told him and patted his shoulder. "We should head inside before Bella freaks out and thinks we are destroying her car." She told him while he sniffed and looked towards the house.
"Vanessa, there's a vampire." He told her, her eyes widened as her heart started to race again.
"Bella." She muttered and she rushed inside, only to stop and see a shiny black car. "That's Carlisle's car." She breathed out, looking to Jacob as he heart plummeted into his stomach.
