Chapter 13

"Eva, Eva wake up," Gavin whispered, shaking me slightly.

My eyes fluttered open and I stared straight into Gavin's eyes who had that look in his eyes that meant he was up to something.

"What's wrong?" I asked, looking at the window. The sun was probably setting now.

"Didn't you say you were bored?" his eyes lit up mischevously.

"Um...yeah, I did. Why?" I asked, raising an eye-brow and shifting to a sitting position.

"Come on then," he made a move to step off the bed but I stopped him.

"Whoa there. You shouldn't walk yet!"

"Stop worrying. My arm is broken, not my leg," he looked at me with an irritated expression and proceeded to push himself off the bed. I sighed, well there wasn't anything I could do.

"Give me a minute," I said, heading for the bathroom.

After I came out, I found Gaivn on the edge of the bed, waiting.

"So, where to?" I asked, rolling my lips into my mouth as I waited for him to answer.

"You'll see," he said, walking over to the door and gesturing for me to follow.

"Gavin... I'm not sure it's a good idea... I am kidnapped, after all," I said hesitantly.

"That's what makes it all the more fun," he replied, his eyes twinkling mischevously and his lips tugged up into a faint smirk.

"What if we get caught?" I whispered as we closed the door behind us.

"I'll take the blame," he said non-chalantly.

"You can't do that! Richard could - "

"Eva, Eva, shh okay. I'll be fine," he said, stopping to look at me, "And besides, we're not going to get caught."

"Fine," I mumbled, trailing off after him.

I had to admit though, it was fun just sneaking around this huge mansion. The feeling that we might get caught made it, in fact, better. It was like a challenge, a mission. The adrenaline started flowing in my blood, making me feel more alive than I have ever been since I came here.

"We're using the stairs," Gavin whispered to me, pointing at the wide, marble staircase. Gavin was limping only a little bit, but he looked like he was having fun too.

"What? No! Gavin, what if someone comes down? we're going to be trapped!"

"Eva, I told you, nothing will happen. And if something does, I'll take the blame. Trust me." he said, staring into my eyes intently. My heart skipped a beat when he asked me to trust him. The look in his eyes, the pleading look, it moved something in me. He really wanted me to believe him but he didn't need to ask me. I trusted him.

"Okay," I whispered, forcing a smile.

A huge grin spread across Gavin's face and I was very shocked I stood there gaping. That was a real smile, and a big one at that.

"What?" he asked after a moment, his grin not as huge but smiling nonetheless.

"You smiled," I said like the dumb-founded idiot I was.

"You trust me," he retorted, smiling again. Some how, the smile made him look younger, happier. I couldn't help but smile back as I watched him. We spent a minute just smiling at each other.

"Yeah, I guess I do," I mumbled, still keeping eye-contact.

Gavin inhaled, a deep breath, "I won't let you down."
