Jacks POV

Maysie

Maysie

May-sie

She's so smart, way too smart for me.

After talking with her in her fathers restaurant, I got completely lost once I asked her about the books she was carrying.  I like to reminisce.

((flashback to earlier in the evening))

We sat down, "So, what are you reading?" I ask her, as I've noticed that she hasn't loosened her grip whatsoever.  I seem to have piqued her interest, because I immediately saw her blue eyes light up.

She went on and on about chemistry and biology and blah blah blah.  I had not a single idea to what she was talking about, but I decided not to be rude and let her go on.  It was interesting actually, to find someone so passionate about something.  It made me feel good inside.  I know it's weird, to say that.  But her happiness actually affects my own.

She sighed, "I'm sorry, I talk too much." She looks down at her chewed fingernails.

"Why would you ever be sorry?" I blurt out.

I startled her, but she replies, "W-what do you mean?"  Her eyes are wide.

"Why should you ever be sorry for being passionate about something?" I ask.  "I found that very intriguing." I lied a little, because I don't know what she was talking about, but I coud tell she loved it.  A lot.

She gives a small smile as color comes to her pale cheeks, "People have just told me that it bores them, so I shut up."  She broke her eye contact.  Why does she get so ashamed?  It really upsets me, and I've only just met this girl.

I sigh out of despair.  I take a sip out of the glass of water in front of me.  She's already had three refills of ice tea.  Silence falls.

"I've got to use the restroom." She says after a few moments.

"Okay." I smile at her.

She stands and walks away, leaving her books in the booth with me. I sigh.

"So who are you?" I hear a gruff voice behind me.  I freeze a second, and turn around to see a large burly man with a greasy apron on.  He's bald on the top of his head, except some brown hair around the sides and down his face into a mustache and beard.  He has piercing blue eyes.

"Jack." I reply.

"Jack what? I've never seen you around here before." He narrows his eyes suspiciously.

"Jack Frost." I confidently reply.  He doesn't change his expression.

"What kind of idiot do you take me to be?" he says. "A fairytale character, eh?"

My muscles stiffen.  I should've probably made up a fake last name, I forgot my reputation.

He continues, "Well, whoever you are, I appreciate you."  That was completely unexpected.

"Might I ask why, sir?" I curiously ask.

"You stood up for my daughter." Oh my god, it's her dad.  Of course, I should've known.  The eyes gave it away.

"But she's a smart one, lad." He warns. "But she's been kicked to the ground so many times, but you didn't let her talk bad about herself, and I appreciate that."

I smile, "It just didn't seem right.  Humane, even."

He darkens his expression, "Don't you hurt her, lad.  She doesn't need it"  He turns and walks away, probably from the sight of Maysie returning.

"Oh, ugh was my dad bothering you? I'm sorry." She says as she places her elbow on the table top and her head in her hand.

"No, I found him charming." I reply sincerely.  She giggles.

"We all know that's not true," she sighs. "But he does the best he can, you know?"  No, not really to be honest.  I don't have any clear memories of my original life, before I became who I am.  Or wait, who I was?  This can get confusing so easily.

Oh wait, I completely forgot I'm human now.

"Are you alright?" She asks, furrowing her eyebrows.  My eyes were widened, and my hands were shaking terribly.  I didn't realize that my rememberance of my current state actually took a physical toll on me.

"I-I need some fresh air." I don't make eye contact and I hurry and rush out of the building so quickly I didn't hear her say so softly, "Okay."

I shut the door behind me and I run.  I run so fast I almost run into several people, forgetting I don't just go through them.

Tears brim my eyes, and I hear the wind above me, aching for my return. I hear the sorrowful howls of the wind against the trees around me.  It's calling me home, but I'm completely hopeless.  I'm stripped of my powers and abilities without a clue why.  I'm back to where I started.

I'm running.  I hae no clear destination.

The wind cries and howls, and I along with it.

A/N

This was totally long overdue.   Part 2 will be alot longer but I just needed something fresh in here to clean the cobwebs.  I'll have Part 2 up super soon, like tonight soon.  Soon seems to be a cursed word for me, I never seem to apply the word soon appropriately.  BUT I WILL THIS TIME I PROMISE.  No more procrastination.  Plus I really like writing this story so I'm going to keep going with this as long as the plotline still allows.  Thanks, <3

*please excuse any spelling/grammatical errors,((bluetooth keyboards are a little iffy)) if you report something to me, I'll go back and fix it!
