Jack x Reader: I Can't Accept 2nd Prize!
Your POV
"Jack, c'mon I'm boooored!" I groan from the couch. It's been snowing thanks to him, bleh.
"And I'm tired! It takes a lot of energy to get this much snow!" He whines back from the kitchen. I huff in response.
"Well might as well make the best of it," I grumble to myself.
"Hey Jack, let's go ice skating or something? We can go down to the pond." I suggest while examining my nails.
Jack walks out with a steaming bowl of mac'n'cheese. He won't stop eating my food!
He takes a forkful, and attempts to say, "Only if you want to get shown up by the best ice skater out there." Followed by one of those cocky smirks. I love them and hate them at the same time. I stick out my tongue at him and put on my snow boots to go out into the shed for my ice skates.
I muck through the snow and I'm succesfull in finding my ice skates underneath the pile of bikes and flat bouncy balls.
" 'Kay Jack, you ready?" I disguise the challenge behind a sweet smile, too bad he saw right through it.
"Absolutely," He coos. He pinches my cheek with his cold hand, "And I'm not gonna hold back a single bit because I love the face you make when you get mad." I swat his hand away and snatch it to head outside and to the pond in town.
We reach there thanks to Jack who carried me over.
"I didn't realize how popular this pond seems to be." Jack remarks. I make a sad face, because it's completely slipped my mind that this is the first year that the mayor is holding an Amateur Ice Skating Contest. Coincidental, huh? Because the place is flooded with a crowd of townspeople, participating or watching. So much for that.
"No, ugh, there's a contest going on," I whine. "Let's go find something else to do." I go and tug at his sleeve the opposite direction, but he doesn't budge.
"No way," He protests. "We're gonna win this thing." He beams at me and starts pulling me in the direction of the pond. I resist.
"No Jack, look," I point at the banner on the booth. "It says, 'Single Skaters Only'." He doesn't break pace.
"Well, good thing I'm invisible."
"Jack, there's no way I'm going to win this thing."
He hesistates, "Well, I'm not going to lie to you, judging on your agility you probably suck." I say nothing out of annoyance and offense.
"But that's why I'm going to help you!" He mischievously smirks.
"Jack, that's cheating." I scold him. He rolls his eyes, "Look, you wanted something to do, and this is it." He snaps.
I give up, this boy is stubborn beyond belief. I sign my name, under a lot of other names. I honestly thought this wasn't going to be a big hit whenever I first heard of the idea of a contest. The man sitting at the booth hands me a number 11 on a piece of paper.
"Here, just pin it on, and you'll be called up by the announcer, Mr. Perry." He informs me. I nod and turn away, trying to pin the number on with cold fingers.
"Here, let me help." Jack kindly offers as he kneels down to pin the paper to my coat.
I blush, "Thanks."
"No problem," He ruffles my hair. "Now, let's just wait for you to be called!" I let out a sigh and a nervous laugh.
Contestant after constestant, and they're all pretty good. It makes me gulp.
"Pathetic," I'd hear Jack say. Or even, "What kind of landing was that?". Based on this, I'm nervous to what Jack is going to 'help' me do.
"Next up, is number 11, Miss (f/n)!" I hear the announcer say over the blow horn. I gasp and tense up.
I felt an arm go around my shoulders, "Don't worry, I'm not going to let anything bad happen." Jack consoles me.
I make my way into the middle of the ice. I look up to see Jack giving me a thumbs up.
"You may begin." Mr. Perry allows me to start, or more precisely Jack.
Not a second later, Jack hooks his arms under mine and drags me across the ice. I hear people clapping.
"Get ready to jump," Jack warns. "Now!" I obey and jump. Jack flies me into the air and twirls me around. I land on my feet and I hear more applause.
"Look at that double axle! How beautiful!" I hear a creepy woman say as I skate by. We do more complex twists and turns and little jumps.
"Alright, here comes the big finish, get ready to jump when I say so," Jack says. I nod. "Now!" I jump and Jack spins me. And spins me. And spins me. And spins me.
"Jack! I'm gonna hurl!" I whisper in a plead.
"Just hold it out for a little longer! We've got it in the bag!" He begs.
He does something that cause me to start spinning me out of control.
"Uh oh." Was all I hear as I feel myself fly into a nearby tree.
"Oomph!"
"Ooooooo, tough luck!" I hear Mr. Perry announce. I felt my face growing red with embarassment.
I stand on the sidelines, waiting to hear the results. I don't care if I win or not, I doubt I did though, thanks to Jacks trick landing.
"Alright, ladies and gentlemen, here are the results!" Mr. Perry begins. He starts with 3rd place, "In Third Place, number 7, Mister Brennan!" A young adult walks up and receives $10 in prize money.
"In Second Place, number 11, Miss (f/n)!" My eyes widen in shock. How on earth did I place, let alone second?
"WHAT?!" I hear Jack yell. Thank god no one can hear him. They go ahead and give first prize to a little girl, who looks about 10 years old. They gave us our prize money.
"THIS IS TOTALLY RIGGED!" Jack still argues, even though no one can hear him.
"I JUST CAN'T ACCEPT 2ND PLACE!" He whines even more. He won't stop complaining the whole way home.
It's nice to know I'm in love with a sore loser.
