Chapter 2 - Memory continued

Shortly after class had ended, most students were already on their way back to their homes. However, one girl remained seated as the last of her fellow classmates made their leave.

The expressions of some bared irritation and clear jealously as they glared at Y/N, which went completely unnoticed by the young yet skilled jonin sitting at the front of the class.

When all students had left, the two remaining people maintained a comfortable silence which was soon interrupted with the young girl asking:

"Sir, if I may ask, why did you ask me to stay behind?"
Confussion was evident in her voice.

"Yes, of course"

He smiled sheepishly and continued with a more serious tint in his tone:

"I have an opportunity to offer you"

This gained the girls interest as she looked up and faced the jonin from her desk.

"As you know, war is still raging beyond the walls of this village. And so, shinobi are recruited at a younger age with much less mission experience. Therefore, the already skilled young shinobi are to be taking the genin exams in a weeks time. Your fellow classmate, Kakashi Hatake, is partaking in those exams and so-"

"You want me to participate in them too, correct Sir?"

"Yes. And just call me Minato, 'Sir' is a little too formal"

He gave Y/N a closed eye smile, one filled with kindness.

"Right, sorry Si- Minato-Sensei"

The girl felt a wave of embarrassment flood over her face as her cheeks darkened a shade or two.
Minato felt himself taking a liking to this girl, she seemed to always get to the point before someone had finished explaining. Subconsciously, Minato's mind wandered to thoughts where Y/N became a student of his.

Although all last grade students were supposed to take the genine exams in 6 months, the skilful few would be tested in a week.
One week until they become classified shinobi, Minato thought,
one week until their lives may be at a great risk regardless of their young age.

This saddened Minato as he might even be granted a team of his own soon, which could mean he might have to endure the fatalities that may occur.

"Minato- sensei?"

"Uh, y-yes?"

"Am I free to leave yet or do you maybe have something else to say?"

Minato wonder for a mere second or two then decided.

"Y/N, would you like to become my apprentice?"

Suddeness of Minatos words shocked the girl, but she replied quickly saying:

"I'd love to Minato-Sensei!"

Only now did Minato notice that Y/N had been calling him 'sensei' this whole time. Once again, the intelligence and ability to predict Minatos next words truly impressed him.

"We will start training tomorrow, 6AM , don't be late"

Y/N smiled widely and hugged her new sensei, to which Minato returned it- after he got over the shock. A new sensation filled Y/N's body, it was pleasant and warm. Her life had gained true meaning that day, although shadows still crept round each corner.

If only she'd know what would happen, would she have answered the same to the blond Jonin's questions?
