Joe POV
'Hi AJ, it's Joe, call me back when you get this.' I hung up the phone, slamming it down on the side. Our families had left a little while back, so it was just me and Dianne getting ready to go to bed.
'Straight to voicemail?' She asked.
'Again. That's the fourth time. He knows something.'
'Maybe he's arranging a cake or something, I don't know. AJs one of my oldest friends, I don't think he'd do anything to intentionally harm me.'
'People change.'
'Not AJ. He's sweet, caring, he's like a baby with a six pack. He's never kept a secret for longer than 5 minutes. This must be pretty big.'
'Yeah, but big good or big bad? Coz at the moment I'm leaning more towards the latter.' We climbed into bed.
'It's my turn now to tell you to stop worrying. I know AJ. And so do you.' I sighed deeply.
'Fine, your right. He's a good guy, I don't need to worry.' Even though my mouth said one thing, my brain was active with thought. Why is he being so secretive, and why would he lie? And why would he then let me think I was involved? I this is something bad, he can tell Di that I had something to do with it and he wouldn't be lying- what would I do then?
Dianne POV
I woke up earlier than usual, to the sound of talking downstairs and Joe not in bed next to me. Curious, I carefully stepped down the stairs, until I could see Joe, but I was out of his eyeline. He was talking on the phone.
'Look, I don't know what your up to, all I know is that you lied to me, and I want to know why.' He sounded angry, so I started to twitch a tad in my seat on the stairs. I hated seeing him like this, all distressed.
'You think I'm gonna believe that?! Ugh your even more stupid then I thought. Just stop AJ okay? The secrets out.' He hung up before he had a chance to respond.
'What secret?' I asked, not moving. I could feel Joes face fall. He turned around slowly, avoiding eye contact with me.
'How long have you been there?'
'Long enough. What's the secret.' He sighed heavily and took a seat next to me on the stairs.
'Last night, when I went to look for you, I cane across AJ talking on the phone. I hung around for a while, and after he hung up I approached him and asked him about it. He told me that he was talking to your Dad about getting your parents over for the wedding. But then your parents showed up, saying they had no idea who AJ was. Considering his call was on the same night, either your Dads lying, which seems unlikely, or...' he trailed off.
'AJ's lying.'
'Exactly.' We day in silence for a moment. Maybe he was hiding something after all.
What is AJ hiding? Is it for the greater good, or quite the opposite? Find out soon...
Sorry I've been so inactive, I've had year 9 exams which have made me super stressed and a severe case of writers block, but hopefully I'm back now 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 :)
