When Isabelle woke up the next morning, Hailey and Cassidy were asleep as she had expected. She got dressed in her robes quickly and quietly left the dormitory with her Transfiguration textbook at hand. There were no disturbances on her way to the common room or the Great Hall after that, as it seemed like most people had chosen to sleep in. She was in fact the first person to get in the Great Hall.
Isabelle took a seat in the middle of the Hufflepuff table and poured herself some tea after grabbing some biscuits from nearby. She started eating her breakfast in silence, her mind once again on Cassidy. She couldn't understand how some people didn't accept someone else's differences. Especially if these people were parents, and the person in question was their child.
Parents were supposed to love their child unconditionally, be there for them in their toughest times. In this case though, when it came to Cassidy, instead of her parents being there for her in her toughest times, it seemed like they were actually the cause of her turmoil.
Isabelle couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. Just because Cassidy felt like she didn't like men the way her mother did, she wasn't doing anything bad. She was just being her own person, doing what she felt was more comfortable for her.
She remember the day Cassidy had come out to her like it had happened yesterday. She hadn't known anything about genders or the different sexual preferences of people back then, but still, she had listened to her and in the end, she had supported her. Not once did it pass through her mind that she was supposed to change her, make her like men the way most women did. She had cared enough for her to recognise that this was her choice and she had to respect it.
Just as a friend, Isabelle had realised that Cassidy actually did feel the way she had described her. She could only guess that her parents would want the best for her, but not accepting her wasn't helping her in any way. She couldn't understand the way they were thinking.
She was shaken out of her thoughts as a kiss was placed on her cheek and a person sat down beside her, placing their arms around her waist and pulling her closer to them.
"Good morning," she heard Scorpius say from beside her and almost instantly, a smile formed on her lips as she turned to face him.
"Hello," she greeted as she pecked his lips, "I'm sorry I didn't join you in the train ride yesterday, something came up."
"It's alright," he assured her as he stole one of her biscuits with a smile, "How were your holidays?"
"I studied for most of the time and spent time with mother and father," she replied as she handed him another biscuit, "How about your holidays?"
"Father didn't stop talking about your love for his peacocks."
Isabelle couldn't help but laugh as she took a biscuit for herself. "Did he now?"
"Yeah, he mentioned you all the time too. Did your parents mention me at all?"
"Mother did sometimes," she admitted as she bit into her cookie, "father did too once or twice."
"Really?" he couldn't help but ask as he looked down at her with furrowed eyebrows, "Did he like me?"
"He is still processing our relationship, I think. It seems to me like he is in denial."
Scorpius smirked. "He thinks his little girl has grown up or something?"
"I think so," she admitted as she looked at her food once again, "he didn't say anything bad about you, though."
"That's fortunate." He watched her as she stared at the table, her lips slightly pursed. It didn't take him long to realise that she wasn't really paying much attention to their conversation, but answering mechanically. Running a finger down her cheek, he spoke up again softly. "What are you thinking about?"
