Chapter 23

Alina's pov

As soon as I saw Alice lift her hands, I adjusted my position. My body was hidden behind a tree. I made sure I had a clear view of what's going on. My feet were planted steady on the ground. Power tingled on my fingertips as I channeled my magic. I quickly casted a spell that will put a protective shield around Edward and his friend. Alice threw a ball light at them but it had no effect on them. I felt the force of the magic on my palm. She's very strong.  But I'm stronger. I strengthened the shield making sure it was impenetrable. I gave myself an imaginary pat on the back, good work Alina. I saw Alice lift her hands again and throw a bigger ball of light at them but nothing happened. I felt the force she used. It was stronger than the last one. She looked shocked. Of course she'll be shocked. No one survived her lightening strikes. She tried one more time but the same thing happened. No effect. Her face got red in anger. She looked ready to explode. She said something to Edward then with a flick of her hand, she vanished.

Edward's pov

I shielded Castor with my body and waited for the blow but I didn't feel anything. I took a peek at Alice and saw her look at her hands confused. She raised her hands again and threw a ball of light at us but nothing happened. I watched closely as she lifted her hands and threw a ball of light. This time, I saw it being absorbed by a sort of light. I looked around and saw the light was surrounding Castor and I. Alice looked furious when her powers had no effect on us. Her beautiful face was red in anger. She turned to me, eyes blazing, fingers curled into claws and said
"This isn't over, young Edward"
With that, she disappeared into thin air.
I stood up from where I laid down shielding Castor. I saw Castor stand up too. He gave me a dirty look and said "You shouldn't have shielded me with your body. What if something bad had happened?"  I rolled my eyes at him and said "You're welcome" He scoffed and replied "I never thanked you" I ignored him and focused on wiping the first from my clothes. When he saw I wasn't going to answer him, he changed the subject.
"What exactly happened Edward? Before you tried to play hero, I saw her lift up her hands. I thought she was going to strike us with lightning or something. Damn that was a close call" I shook my head and replied
"Yeah she did strike but it had no effect. She tried and tried again but nothing happened. I noticed a sort of light surrounding us. But - - - -"
I was cut of when I heard a very familiar voice shout "Edward!" I turned towards the direction I heard the voice and a wide smile appeared on my face. I opened my arms in time for Alina to run into them. She flung her arms me and I lifted her high. I was so happy to see her. I was looking for her but it seems she found me. She disentangled for me and I saw her face spread in a wide smile.
"Alina, thank the gods I found you" I said. She looked exhausted.
"Edward what were you thinking confronting Alice?" She asked me, a frown on her face. I was shocked she knew about our confrontation with Alice. Could it be - - - ? No it's not possible. I arched a brow at her.
"Wait a minute, how do you know about that?" I asked her. She was about to reply when the clearing of a throat reminded us we wearing alone. I looked around to see Castor staring at us with a confused expression.
"Oh I'm sorry, Castor meet Alina and Alina meet Castor. He's an old friend. He knows about you" I saw Alina raise a brow at me and I knew it was a signal that we were gonna talk later. But she didn't seem too upset about it. Thank the gods. I can't deal with another angry woman today again. Castor and Alina shook hands and I asked the question I've been dying to ask.
"Tell me Alina, how do you know about the confrontation between Alice and I?"
She rolled her eyes at me and folded her arms across her chest. She cocked her hip to one side and replied with a question.
"Who do you think protected you from it?"
Castor and I gasped shocked. Was she there the whole time? I asked myself .
"So the light surrounding us was you?" I asked
She just smiled and nodded at me. This is fantastic. No wonder Alice powers had no effect on us. It'll take someone equally powerful to stand Alice and it seems Alina fit the shoe.
