Chapter 34

Alina's pov

We whipped our gazes towards the direction and gasped when Princess Elena strode majestically into the library. We were staring at her with mouth opened as if in a trance. The shattering of glass broke our stares and we turned to see Edward had dropped his glass of wine while staring at Elena. However he stared at her in a different sort of way. Definitely not shocked. He looked mesmerized. And speechless. And dumbfounded. Whatever word you wish to use. I turned back to Elena and saw her take a seat beside Edward. I could see how much she was struggling to hold in her emotions. I guess it must have taken a lot of courage for her to speak up. She took a deep breath and said.
"I know you all have questions. Ask and I'll do my best to answer them"
William was the first person to speak
"What the hell do you mean when you said you had black magic?"
We all rolled our eyes at me. Edward gave him the stink eye and chirped
"What do you think she meant? Moron"
William ignored him and focused on Elena waiting for her answer. She shrugged.
"I meant what I said. I have black magic"
Castor threw his hands in the air exasperated and exclaimed
"How can you have black magic? You are sweet and innocent. How can you be evil?"
Elena frowned at him and replied
"I said I have black magic but it doesn't mean I'm evil"
I arched a brow at her and asked
"Can you please explain a bit more what you mean?"
She looked nervous. Edward took her hand in his both hands comforting her. She smiled at him and turned to us saying
"I have black magic but I've never used it. My mum had black magic and I inherited it from her. Before she died, she told me about herself. How dark magic affected her. I saw the pain it cost her and promised my self not to let that happen to me. I discovered I had black magic a few years ago. It was so surprising. I thought the trait died with my mother. You can imagine the shock when I discovered I had it. That day, my father and I had an argument. I was so furious at him that I pushed him. To my surprise, he flew threw the window and landed in the garden. I knew that wasn't ordinary because there's no way I have enough strength to push a grown man. My father contacted a witch and she discovered I had gotten my mother's magic after she died. I do my best to contain my emotions so I don't do something stupid by accident"
When she was through, we all sat quietly trying to digest what she said. Castor stood up and began to pace. He asked her
"So what part did you overhear us discussing when you walked in"
She frowned at him probably wondering why he was asking. I personally was eager to know just how much she knows about me.
"I only heard the part about someone saying there's a person with black magic in the palace" she said. We all breathe out relieved she didn't know much. Nowadays we don't know who to trust. However it seems we relaxed too soon because she turned to me and said inquisitively
"Who are you exactly?"
My breath caught in my throat. I looked at the others are saw them with the same expressions. Edward was the one to ask
"What do you mean Elena?"
I held my breath as I waited for her to answer. She looked confused and said
"I can feel the energy coming from her. It's too powerful to be a normal human. My father said I'm very powerful because I come from a long line of witches but it's as if my magic is frightened to be this close to her. I don't understand why"
I couldn't think of what to say. My mind was blank and I turned to William silently begging him with my eyes to help me out. He got the message and said
"Erm Elena, it's a personal issue. I think you should give her some time to think it over before giving you a reply"
She nodded eagerly. Castor and Edward immediately changed the subject and engaged her in a conversation. I knew they were trying to distract her from asking more questions and I was grateful for that. Soon they all left leaving William and I alone in the library. Suddenly all the suppressed emotions swamped me and I struggled to hold back my tears. William seemed to notice this because he patted my back and whispered
"let it all out Alina"
With that, the flood opened. He cradled my head to him as I sobbed all over him. I wept out my pain, my anger, my tears, my loss. Soon I was spent from crying. William wiped my tears away and said
"no matter what you are going through, you are not alone. I'm here for you"
And he kissed me.
