Azurite

Scientific Makeup: Basic copper carbonate. Varies from dark blue to "azure" blue. Blue streak. Hardness of 3 1/2 - 4.

Environment: Secondary copper material that develops in the zone of alteration in all types of hydro-thermal replacement deposits. Commonly occurs with malachite, limonite, and chalcopyrite.

Found in: Copper deposits in Tsumeb, South-West Africa. Arizona and Utah copper deposits (found with malachite). Fine crystals found in San Carlos Mine, Mazapil, Zacatecas, and Mexico.

Name: Drawn from the blueness of the crystal.

Magick and Legend: Said to have been worn by ancient Egyptain priests and priestesses to to enhance spiritual consciousness. Associated with Sagittarius. Good for those gifted in divination. When practicing precognition, hold in a piece in your hand. Physical touching releases more energies than simply gazing at it.

Healing: Said to restructure molecules, revitalize the brain, and rebuild gray brain matter. Aid in developing embryonic babies in the womb.
