Scientific Makeup: A mixture of sodium and calcium aluminum silicates. Colors vary from grey, green, bluish, and sometimes a mixture. Pearly. White streak. Hardness is 6.

Environment: Important rock-forming minerals and are found in many kinds of igneous and metamorphic rocks. Occurs with hornblende and augite in gabbro of plutonic rocks. Occurs with hornblende in basalt of volcanic rocks.

Found in: East Labrador. Adirondack Mountains of New York. Finland and Madagascar. Pale yellow found in Utah, California, Oregon, and Texas.
