Scientific Makeup: A type of chalcedony. Closely related to quartz. Color variations depend on the amount of iron and aluminum. Hardness is 7.
Environment: Formed in several environments, generally near the surface of the earth where temperatures and pressures are relatively low. Commonly forms in the zone of alteration of lode and massive hydrothermal replacement deposits. Found in bodies of chert in chemical sedimentary rocks.
Found in: Montana, California, Texas, Arkansas, Utah, and Wyoming in the United States. Fine specimens from Brazil, Uruguay, and Egypt.
Magick and Legend: Brown forms called "Egyptian's marble". Called "the rain bringer" by Native Americans, and used as a rubbing stone. Balancing and grounding. When carved into an arrowhead and worn, attracts luck. Good stone to use after completing a ritual to help one regain energy and become grounded. Reduces insecurity, fears, and guilt.
Healing: Stabilizer. Helps the anemic. Stimulates hormone balance and vitalizes brain tissue. Used to ease symptoms related to cancer.
