"thanks for the ride to school. my mom needed to take my car cause hers is in the shop." maci told daniel.

"it's no problem." daniel smiled.

in the background, shawn mendes was playing per maci's request. maci looked over at daniel, he was so concentrated on the road. maci found it adorable.

"what you looking at?" daniel asked, the corners of his mouth turning up into a smile.

"you." maci said. the word slipped from her mouth before her brain could think to say 'nothing'. now the word 'you' hung between them, both of them too scared to say anything else.

"why?" daniel asked, finally.

"i don't know." maci shook her head, turning her attention back to the road.

"i do that too." daniel said.

"what?" maci asked.

"look at you when you think i'm not." daniel replied. maci looked over at him and saw his cheeks were a light pink. she turned back to the road.

before they could talk about it anymore, daniel pulled up to the school. they weren't saying anything, but the silence wasn't uncomfortable.

the school day seemed to go by quickly today. maci and daniel continued to talk to each other and acted like nothing happened in the car today. maci was partly grateful for this, but she also wanted to talk about it.

soon enough, it was time for theatre practice.

"c'mon people! we have a show to put on!" the teacher said. daniel and maci walked into the class together.

"there are my stars! get on the stage!" the teacher commanded. both daniel and maci ran onstage. as it got closer to opening night, it only got crazier in class.

"okay, are we okay with singing songs today?" the teacher asked. daniel nodded his head but then looked at maci, remembering how she had told him that she didn't like singing in front of people. maci nodded her head hesitantly.

"alright! no choreography today, just singing. daniel, piano." the teacher said. daniel nodded and then sat at the piano, maci sat next to him.

"let's sing 'you're the one that i want'!" the teacher said. both daniel and maci nodded at her.

daniel and maci sang the song together and completely nailed it. when it was over, daniel grabbed maci's hand and squeezed it.

"i knew you could do it." daniel whispered to her as everyone else in the auditorium clapped. daniel let go of maci's hand and they turned to everyone. daniel did a little bow and then laughed.

"this is why i casted you two! you two have the chemistry." the teacher applauded. daniel and maci both blushed as they looked at each other.
