"Okay, ladies. That first half wasn't what we wanted, what we trained for, but it's not over. Logan, I'm giving you 15 minutes to change the game, then I'm pulling you. I don't know what is going on with you but it's changing your game and I don't like it." Laura scolds me in the locker room.
We're 1-0 down against Sky Blue, it's not the end of the world, but Laura hates losing. I'm also getting the hint that she doesn't like me all that much, either.
On our way back to the field, Pinoe and Emily pull me to the side.
"What's going on with you?" Megan asks, her brow furrowed in concern. "You've been acting weird since yesterday."
Emily doesn't speak, she only nods along in agreement. The sun beats down on us as we exit the tunnel. We're first out, Sky Blue keeping us waiting.
"Nothing." I mutter rather pathetically as I kick invisible rocks.
"Bullshit. Did something happen with Kelley?" Emily finally asks, and when I freeze momentarily, Pinoe snaps.
"Did she cheat on you? Where the fuck is she?!" I pull her arm, stopping her from storming across the field to the woman in question, who is stepping onto the turf with her teammates. She glances at me, only breaking eye contact to look at Pinoe and Emily, both glaring and angry. O'Hara clearly gets the message, and faces the other way.
"Okay, something is definitely going on."
"They broke up. Now, focus on the game." Hope interrupts, gaining questioning looks from the three of us, basically silently asking how she knew that. "Kelley talks when she's angry."
"Great." I mumble, the knot in my stomach growing.
"Hey, Hope's right." Emily throws an arm around me as Solo drags Pinoe away in an effort to calm her down. "Focus on the game. Sort other shit out later."

Halfway through the second half and play is vastly different than the first forty-five minutes. It's clear that players on both sides have sensed the tension between Scott and O'Hara, and the heavy tackles on both sides prove that.
Laura seems pleased with Logan's improved performance, seeing as the Rookie is still on the field. She's the one giving the opposition defenders a serious headache.
Emily finally got off the bench, and has been crucial in getting the ball to her Canada teammate. She stops Kelley before she can even turn, quickly giving the ball to me. Sky Blue threw too many players forward for the failed attack, leaving me with a lot of clear space to run into.

"Megan Rapinoe charging down the flank with the ball, Sky Blue left extremely vulnerable now. It seems they don't want to hang on to the lead."
"The only Reign player in sight is the young Rookie Logan Scott."
"The last two defenders split, one taking Rapinoe and the other marking Scott. Rampone can't keep pace with Rapinoe, the Seattle player gliding past her and playing the through ball for Scott to run onto."
"Logan Scott gets the ball at her feet, Goodson hot on her heels! I don't think she can catch her!"
| Emily |
I watch in awe as Logan sprints away with the ball, shrugging off Goodson who repeatedly pulls on her shirt to slow her down. The American defender clearly has enough and slides in at Logan's feet, sending our Rookie tumbling down.
She falls with a scream, and a shoving match ensues.
"What the fuck!" Pinoe yells as she pushes Goodson. However Megan is no match for the defender, who has to be held back by Schmidt.
"Okay, calm down." Sophie pleads with both players, creating a barrier between the two.
Kelley walks up to CoCo, pulls her aside and tries to walk away with her Sky Blue teammate as some of the other girls continue to push one another.
"Are you fucking serious, Kel? Does she really mean that little to you?" Pinoe yells at her National teammate, catching the attention of the others who were happy to start a mass brawl.
Players on both sides seem to halt in their actions, nobody making a sound. Nobody except Logan, who continues to whimper on the ground, clearly crying. Kelley closes the distance until she standing in front of Megan, slightly threateningly.
"My relationship is none of your business, Pinoe." Kelley grits out. She glances at Logan, her gaze softening slightly before she turns back to Megan. Hope is now by her side. "And yes. My teammates come first, so back off."
Megan doesn't. She ruthlessly shoves Kelley.
"I don't know what the fuck happened to you, or between you and Logan, but that tackle was messed up. Look at her!" Hope yells, finally voicing her opinions as she comes between Kelley and Megan, doing what the referee failed to do, and motions at Logan. The Rookie flat on her back as the trainers check her ankle. Kelley gulps, but her face remains stoic.

"LOGAN!"
"What is it, Kevin?" Clarissa asks as she enters the sitting room. She was preparing dinner while I watched Logan's latest game.
"She's hurt." I mutter, not tearing my eyes off the screen. I use the sleeve of my sweater to dry my eyes, wiping away the tears before they spill.
I'm not used to seeing Logan hurt. Not by someone who isn't our mom. This is different, this is serious, that much is obvious. From the reaction of her teammates, the tears running down Logan's face and the medics on the field. But most worrying of all - Kelley's lack of reaction.
"She's in good hands, sweetheart." Clarissa pats my shoulder, standing with me in silence as I watch the mass of players almost decend into an unattractive brawl which seems to follow the player who tackled my sister.
My foster mother leaves to finish dinner as I watch my sister being carried off the field, unable to finish the game. The asshole who tackled her was given a yellow, a decision in itself that nearly cause another fight.
Seattle played with a vengence after my sister was removed. It was beautiful to see, mostly because the coach already used all of her subs, so Seattle were a player down. But it didn't change a thing. Megan pushed further up the field, running straight at the Sky Blue D, in particular - Goodson.
The defender was on thin ice and clearly didn't want to risk a second yellow, and it showed. It was almost as if Sky Blue were playing with 10, and not Seattle.
Hope played the ball to Kyle, who passes to Zurrer. She easily shrugs off Kelley and plays a through ball to Pinoe. The American gets on the end and is left one-on-one with the 'keeper who comes out to close Megan down. Rapinoe simply lifts the ball over her head and celebrates when it hits the net.
The game finished a draw, but it was clear nobody was happy with the result. Sky Blue unhappy that they lost the lead, and Seattle angry due to the injury inflicted on Logan.
"Why don't you give her call after dinner?" Alan suggests as he sits at the kitchen table.I don't speak during dinner, my mind racing with hopes and thoughts on Logan and her
health.

Emily, Megan and Hope stay by my side as I wait to get an update on my ankle.
"Are you okay?" My blanket buddy asks for the 100th time in the last thirty minutes.
"I'm fine." I breathe out, resting my head on Hope's shoulder. I can sense the tension in the air, and it's only broken when Megan speaks.
"What happened with you and Kelley?"I lift my head from my 'keeper's shoulder, inhale deeply before sighing, "She broke up with me because I wasn't ready to go public."
"That's why?" Emily asks and I nod.
"She didn't let me explain. She just assumed I was cheating on her, or that I was ashamed, not that I was scared." At the mention of being afraid, I feel Hope's stare burning the side of my face. "Doesn't matter now." I mumble as the door opens and in walks Laura and her team.
"Okay, so we don't know anything yet. We need to wait for the swelling to go down, we'll get you checked out tomorrow. Just don't do anything other than resting that foot."
"So her season isn't over?" Megan asks.
"I honestly don't know."
